RIP Fred McLeod

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So, maybe it doesn't make it better, but it would have been even more sad had he passed before witnessing and calling 2016.

Dude... I feel exactly the same way. Fred was from Strongsville... you could hear the fandom in his voice when he'd go nuts after a big win or play. I'm happy he got to come home and witness/be a part of Cleveland history.

Absolutely devastating news. Fred's emotional reaction to the Cavs' title win will forever give me goosebumps, now even more than before. Hard to put into words how hard this news hit me. As cliched as it is, this really does feel like I've lost a member of the family.

His voice was synonymous with Cavaliers basketball and this coming from a person who was initially unhappy with the way Reghi was handled on his way out. I actively tried not to like Fred but it was impossible. He was too engaging and genuine.

RIP

I honestly didn't want to watch that, but I had to.

But still the best thing about their broadcasts, real emotion.

Their bromance was awesome and genuine. Two guys that showed their passion and love for Cleveland sports.

I've never listen to anyone that gets involved in the game like Fred. It wasn't fake or phony. He was really passionate about the team. I'm going to miss that energy on the air.

Side note: please, don't replace him with Phelps. And put us all in a coma this season.

I hope they raise him a banner and put it right next to AC’s.

Would be one of the best moments in Cavalier history if they had a ceremony with AC, Beth, and some of Fred's other family if they put a banner that was like Tait's up right next to AC's banner. Screw having the retired numbers in numerical order, Fred and AC should have a banner up there together for what they've done for Cleveland, the Cavaliers, and all fans of the franchise.

My wife and I have been together 10 years and celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary today. We watched the end of the 2016 Finals Game 7 clutching our lucky Cavs t-shirts and went nuts when they won...but it wasn't complete until we saw that video of Fred's call with AC. Such a happy moment in our lives together, and he played a part in it.

If any of Fred's family, friends, or coworkers ever read this thread, I hope they'll take some condolence in how much Fred was loved and respected by the fans.

Really, really sad. The voice of the team but also such a great ambassador too.

Him being gone definitely makes it sink in that this crazy period of Cavs basketball has come to a close and that new characters will be writing their story as we move forward.

Rest In Peace, Fred.

One of my favorite RCF memories several years ago was during a pre-season game in Orlando in 2013, Fred had to miss the game and Phelps had to take his place doing play-by-play. You spent the entire broadcast trashing Phelps and pining for Fred to come back :chuckle:
