RIP John Adams

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
When did he stop doing his thing and why? Man it was so cool.

Well COVID delayed the start of the 2020 season, and then when it started, fans weren't allowed in. Sometime in the offseason, he fell gravely ill with numerous conditions, including broken ribs, etc. So that's why he didn't attend any games in 2021 or 2022.

This is a great idea, dude. Would be so cool to see in person and if they flashed the camera to a shot of his statue while they play the drumming soundtrack through the PA during close playoff games...

Would be good mojo all around.

My father and I purposely bought tix to numerous games right next to him to get our ear drums blasted, probably won't ever sit that high up again but thanks for the memories. He's a great man, talkative throughout the game, predicting what managerial stuff Tito should do, he was literally all of us. His favorite snack 10/10 times was a bag of ballpark popcorn. Always seen him snacking on popcorn. He was never shy to take pictures (one with my grandpa), he let the kids bang the drum, there'd be people coming up from home plate seats just to say I flew in from so and so and had to come meet you, it's apart of the great ballpark experience. He truly was one of a kind and there'll never be another John Adams.

Just popping in to say it’s been a tough day.

Anyone who has ever had the chance to hang out with John over the years always comes away with the same impression; he was one of the most genuinely nice people you could ever meet.

Often times “celebrity fans” are not who they seem to be when you meet them, but you will never find someone who will ever say that about John Adams. We were very lucky that he was the representation of the fan base.

It’s a testament to the impact he had on generations of players when one of the first things mentioned by any former player you ask when talking about the atmosphere in Cleveland, especially opposing players in the playoffs, was how much they hated/loved the drum depending on which side they were on.

And his impact on the fan base was tenfold. The drumbeat is Cleveland baseball, especially for any fan 40 and younger.

I always joked with him that he is the only verifiable fan out of the millions of fans who claimed to have been at Len Barker’s perfect game. We lost the most important fan out of the millions of those fans today.

I know there are plans to celebrate him a ton at the Home Opener. Nobody deserves that more than John.
