RIP John Adams

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It blows my mind that some people (cough, my parents) who have watched games for years didn’t realize there was a rhyme and reason to when he’d bang the drum: runner in scoring position, and bottom of the 8th and 9th.
Top of the 9th as well when we had the lead and two outs. It would start slow, and then with each pitch he'd do it faster until it was the normal drumbeat.
When the Black Keys drummer filled in on opening day in 2021, and he started doing it the moment the first inning started, I was like, what the fuck is this? :chuckle:

It's weird thinking about how professional athletes are such an incredibly rare breed. So gifted physically, the work they put into their craft, the money they make, and how they're the ones we pay to see.

But it's John Adams who was the constant, and whose passing had such a huge impact on all of us. The regular guy who was just the fan for all of us when we weren't there. The epitome of loyalty and ordinary decency.

He was the Samwise Gamgee of Cleveland baseball.
