Rule 5 draft talk

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No, not one bit.

If anyone is losing sleep over the loss of Dakody Clemmer (he is a great kid) they need to readjust how they are living their life.
Are you surprised we only lost 1 player?

This is the full list... the Dodgers grabbed a catchers and then two pitchers that have major league experience... Carson Fulmer is a name some of us know...

Let's be honest ... we have 20 or so prospects on 40 man ... we protected 36 in this AAA phase ... we have another 20-30+ guys (conservative) ahead of Clemmer not yet eligible for Rule 5 ... thus we are talking about someone who is in 70-90 range of prospects, if that (maybe 100+). With 26 people on each roster, Clemmer would have probably been placed on AA roster again but more of a middle-of-the-road reliever. But as some already said on this board, we expected him to be left off protection list (as Tondo said "That's 24 on the pitching side alone and already cut talents like Eichhorn, Clemmer and S. Arias (injury and 16 draftees)". Clemmer drafted in 2016 as 19th round pick, is a free agent after next year. Would he have made the Guardians pitching staff next year? Only if 20 or so prospects ahead of him got injured (like Battenfield, Plink, Myer, Morgan, Morris, Curry, Allen Jr, Gaddis, Mota, Miko, Krauth, ..... and many others including Torres) . And, even with all those injuries, we would have traded for a washed up AAAA pitcher for a bag of balls.

Was never losing sleep over who we lost in this phase. Just paid more attention to it then ever due to how dry the news is lately with lockout. Have to waste my time somewhere.

Just interesting how other teams view our talent as others say that BA and FanGraphs have no way to track each teams systems accurately (so this should be a slight indication). With a deeper system (as others say), I would have expected, more 2-4. But, I guess I am just a homer. I knew though there was no one really special this deep that I would lose sleep over.

Just out of curiosity, 24 teams had selections from their system (sorry for spacing issues - but teams and selections from - 14 teams more than 1 selection from and last year we had no selections from our list)

Giants 6
Padres 5
Rangers 4
Royals 4
Arizona 3
Rays 3
Astros 3
Blue Jays 2
Pirates 2
Mets 2
Reds 2
Rockies 2
Dodgers 2
Mariners 2
Twins 1
Yankees 1
Marlins 1
Braves 1
Cardinals 1
Athletics 1
Cubs 1
Guardians 1
Brewers 1
Tigers 1

He does a lot well.

His last season post Covid was tough, prior to that he was trending towards being close to MLB ready by 22/23. But he is exactly the kind of guy liked in Cleveland. K's a lot guys, throws 5 pitches, comfortable throwing all 5 in any count, simple mechanically. See some traits and tweaks the system is effective at improving that will clean up a good bit of his command inconsistencies which have plagued him as a pro.

Both of these guys are heavy effective tunnellers, but both have arm actions that need cleaned up a bit.
I can see Daniels benefitting from being converted to the BP. Can the same be said for Sabrowski? His ability to limit waks and strike guys out is appealing if he can get and stay healthy. This organization has become so good at developing SP that a fan like myself can't help but get excited when they acquire what looks like another possibility.

Found this and thought I'd share.

“We are excited to add Erik into the organization,” said James Harris, vice president of player development. “Realizing he has an injury history and given our track record with medical rehabilitations and developing pitchers, we feel once he gets on the other side of his injury he could have a good opportunity to help our club. In the time that he did pitch, he was dominant.”

With Erik Sadowski's history of injury, he will probably be affirmatively considered for an additional option for the parent club.. He's been a pro for three years .. and has only 65 IP's... impressive 65 IP's.. but a SSS.. We'll see if the development staff can get him on a rehabilitation and improvement program that teaches him another skill: staying healthy.. We'll see.. A pretty good gamble, imho..

It's a cheap lotto ticket, that if you win, you get a big bonus in the payout...

Don't forget how about they modified Civale in one off season to prevent possible injuries going forward in the shoulder and elbow.

I have a hunch they will put him through it while he is going through rehab. We likely won't see much of him in 22, but the goal is to get his mechanics in order then in 23, see if he can make the next step forward and become a weapon. We do lack top end left handed talent so if he can prove to be that, then we lost nothing and gained everything...

Plan is to make both of them relievers as of now. Daniels as a multi inning guy/swing guy out of the bullpen and Sabrowski is going to be eased back in.

Shame of it is Sabrowski has tremendous stuff, he is absolutely filthy, potentially knocking on the MLB door already if he didn’t have the TJ issues multiple times as a pro. Mid to high 90s as a lefty, 12-6 curve, cutter, and a good change in his mix. His curve is his best pitch. His change is very effective against righties, as is his cutter. He tunnels well and has a tough to pick up release point as he’s tall and throws over the top.

If they can get him healthy he has a good chance to get to the MLB level. He is still incredibly raw, only 29 IP as a pro to this point. I like the developmental staffs chances of getting him healthy and mechanically sound to where he will remain healthy.

That's great news Bimbo, thanks for the info. Maybe Sabrowski gets healthy and pitches out of the pen initially then gradually works his way back as a SP. Either way he looks like an excellent pick up.
