Safety Safari - Eric Murray of K.C.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Murray is a really strong special teams player, versatile, and small. His biggest issue is that he is a jack of all trades but master of none. He is a great tackler, solid coverage player, and knows where to be on the field. But he is small, struggles against very quick players and larger receivers, and does not have one solidified position.

He's probably a #3 safety that gets a lot of play on special teams. It's a good pickup. I still think the Browns draft a safety high in this draft, but, I guess we'll see.

Sounds like he is essentially the backup in the Secondary to fit in different spots in the different positions from what everyone is saying. May need a better SS for starting then, but at least we know he can play and do it fairly decent as well.

While I saw Morgan Burnett's PFF grade and felt good about the signing, it's important to note he only played 389 snaps on defense last season for the Steelers. Terrell Edmunds essentially took control of the position when Burnett suffered a groin injury early in the season, causing him to become a part-time rotational player mostly in running situations.

Eric Murray, meanwhile, played 702 snaps at safety and another 134 on special teams for the Chiefs. The battle for strong safety playing time isn't all that cut and dry.

Per Dorsey’s presser yesterday I would assume Burnett is the starter. Dorsey spoke of Burnett as a starting safety in the NFL. He mentioned nickel packages and special teams for Murray.
