Safety Safari - Eric Murray of K.C.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Since Berry has been released....This can't be the guy one of the news guys was saying get excited about....no way.

Honestly Berry might work since Kindred is starter quality and Berry needs not only a prove it deal, he might never be an every snap safety ever again.

Great that he beat cancer, but being football shape ready is a whole different ball game.

Berry is a great locker room guy. Always good to have those.

Probably because those guys don’t exist.

They fell for the Earl Thomas stuff, and they claimed a LB too.

I think Berry is a good name. That’s an impact signing if it plays out. I see the value there if the price is right. Could be insane value, honestly.

I still can’t believe people fell for that fraud kid’s Earl Thomas tweet.

How do you know this? I heard it's tepid at best because Dorsey forced him into a prove it contract year after coming back from cancer.
Water under the bridge.

He’s also the one who gave him the lucrative contract he was just released from.

He hasn't really shown anything since tearing his Achilles in 2017. Maybe as a veteran backup, but I think his days as an impact player are long gone. Also:

Chiefs' Eric Berry reportedly has Achilles deformity, may require patience in recovery

....As documented by Arrowhead Pride, Garafalo said on "Good Morning Football" Saturday that Berry actually has what's called a "Haglund's deformity" in his Achilles tendon. "That's a bone spur that basically digs into the Achilles," Garafalo explained. "It's just something that continues to irritate that area. Some guys have been able to play with it -- you get a shoe here or there, you can adjust ... but that's what's going on. It's going to be a pain management thing. It's not like this will tear the Achilles necessarily. A lot of these cases don't result in a tear, but that's why, with Berry right now, he has not played ... That's going to allow them a little bit more patience with Berry, but it is extremely painful."

As @The Human Q-Tip mentioned, how much Berry would be able to contribute coming off a major injury and still dealing with one in some capacity is really a major question..

If they sign Berry, I'd believe it's more how they view Kindred then it is them wanting Berry to have a major role because right now Berry is a rotational safety...

Wilks likes to play Cover-3 and also likes to use multiple safety looks, so bringing in a safety will likely be a high priority...

Looking at the free agent class, Jonathan Cyprien, Mike Mitchell and George Iloka could all be stopgap options to rotate with Kindred...

One guy who might get some buzz here is Tre' Boston... He played his first three years with Steve Wilks and then again last year in Arizona... He's played really well the last two years in a starting role and likely would come within budget... Even though he's more of a FS, he played a lot of different positions within Wilks defense last year..

Regardless, with the hole that Peppers left and both Randall and Kindred being FAs next year, I have to think S jumps high on the list of draft targets as well...

I wouldn’t mind signing eric berry on a fairly league min, he could be very scary in the secondary. Fans would be merry.

He's still only 25 and he was drafted by Dorsey so it certainly fits our M.O.

PFF grades:

Murray Peppers
Def. 67.5 77.6
Rdef 71.2. 74.2
tack 70.1 67.2
Prsh 62.6 58.8
cov 66.9 77.3

we released Kindred.

Murray is a really strong special teams player, versatile, and small. His biggest issue is that he is a jack of all trades but master of none. He is a great tackler, solid coverage player, and knows where to be on the field. But he is small, struggles against very quick players and larger receivers, and does not have one solidified position.

He's probably a #3 safety that gets a lot of play on special teams. It's a good pickup. I still think the Browns draft a safety high in this draft, but, I guess we'll see.
