Going into action on September 18th, the Indians are currently:

AL Central
Minnesota: 93-58
Cleveland: 88-63, 5 GB

AL Wild Card
Oakland: 91-61, +2
Tampa Bay: 89-63
Cleveland: 88-63, 0.5 GB

Minnesota looks about impossible to catch at this point. Even if we play top tier ball, their schedule is far easier than ours. We could feasibly win out and I still think we would fall short.

The Wild Card is still very open though. Tampa is playing at the Dodgers and then they still have the Yankees and Red Sox on their schedule.

Here's how every team's schedule shakes out the rest of the way:

Minnesota Twins (93-58, 5 game lead in Central):
1 game vs. CWS
3 games vs. KC
3 games at DET
3 games at KC

Oakland Athletics (91-61, 2 game lead for WC1, 2.5 game lead for WC2):
1 game vs. KC
3 games vs. TEX
2 games at LAA
4 games at SEA

Tampa Bay Rays (89-63, 2 GB of WC1, 0.5 game lead for WC2):
1 game at LAD
4 games vs. BOS
2 games vs. NYY
3 games at TOR

Cleveland Indians (88-63, 5 GB in Central, 2 GB of WC1, 0.5 GB of WC2):
2 games vs. DET
3 games vs. PHI
3 games at CWS
3 games at WAS

I wish there was a realistic path for the Twins to grab the 1 seed

They stick out like a sore thumb compared to the Yankees and Astros would be a Dream first round matchup for the wild card winner

I personally don't think there is a huge difference between the Twins and Yankees.

But I'd probably prefer to play Minnesota just because they're a bit banged up, and New York's back end bullpen is tougher

With nine games left, a 6-3 record seems very doable against the remainder of the Indians' schedule. Question is, will that be enough to snag a Wild Card spot? Hoping like hell the Red Sox step it up against Tampa Bay this weekend while the Tribe can take care of business.

Here is to hoping Toronto can offer some resistance in that final series as well. They have won their past 3 series, which include home series vs. the Red Sox and Yankees

Man these damn teams just refuse to lose. Oakland taking 2 or 3 vs Houston was absolute bullshit. Was hoping the Dodgers would get a quick sweep of Tampa.
Tampa isn’t playing lights out right now, if the Tribe is catching anyone it’s them.
I gave up on the Twins when Tampa swept the Tribe. Losing 2/3 didn’t help either.

Reminds of the 2007 Browns.

We needed the Colts to beat the Titans week 17 in Indy. Colts already had everything locked up, so they rested everybody. Normally, playing Peyton @ Indy was an almost auto loss, but Titans got super lucky.

Normally, 5 games vs the Sox and Yanks is 3-2 at absolute best. But Sox are done and Yankees are only playing for homefield. Just our luck that the teams we need to lose go against good teams with nothing to play for.

Rays with 3 so far in the 7th to go up 3-2 on the red sox.
