Series #2- Kansas City @ Cleveland. Tribe home opening series.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Game balls: Jose, Bieber and Clase
Tip of the cap: Josh Naylor, Andres Gimenez
Get your shit together fast: Franmil Reyes

Gimenez continues to excite me. He seems to have a nice bat, i can see it might take some time to develop, and i am not sure this makes sense, but it just seems he is in control while batting, that he will get it all figured out at the plate.

We also let Bauers take some swings against a lefty. Thought for sure he would be PH for
Yeah, Tito could have pinch hit Chang for Bauers and Luplow for Naylor and there's nothing the KC manager could do about it. The only thing I can think of is Naylor hits lefties as well as he hits righties and he was having a good day with two hits already. I still don't get why he wouldn't have Chang bat for Bauers expect possibly because it was the 8th inning and we already had two-run lead and he wanted to keep Bauers in for defense.

You know it's a painful start to the season when folks are pining for a dude given a bazillion chances here who found a way to constantly miss games. Good for Naquin but it was more than time to move on.

Jose straight up carrying the offense.

Not interested in Naquin 4.0 or whatever post injury you’re counting.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Naquin, but effectively swapping his role with Ben Gamel is a net loss, transactionally.

He led the team in Hard Hit % in 141 AB last season.

Just hits the ball hard, and quite frankly is a much better player than Gamel. Unless he initiated the end of it, seems like a miss from a front office perspective.

Ton of games left for Gamel to prove me wrong, of course.

Naquin is a better player than Gamel, IF he is healthy...which is seldom....and if he doesn't have to face left handed pitchers...and if you discount the fact that in arby he would have gotten paid five times more than Gamel is making.

Overall, Gamel has a better OBP.

I like Naquin...nice kid...always hustles...good teammate. I'm happy that he is off to a terrific start, and I hope it continues.

But no way in Hades did I want him back on this team.

I always loved Naquin but God knows he had his chances here.
Certainly he is better than Gamel, and I certainly don’t know why he’s here

They only needed Naquin (or Gamel) as a bridge to delay service time.

I have no disillusionment regarding his health, dude has had some shit luck there. But the worst case scenario there is bringing Daniel Johnson back up, or Mercado.

Who, by the way, is ABSOLUTELY going to get another crack at CF before Daniel Johnson.

Can feel that one coming soon, he had a couple hits in the ALT site over the last few days, including a homer. Not saying I agree with that (if it happens), classic Indians move though.

I am seeing references to alt site performances. Are they setting up truly competitive situations that mean something or is it really just batting practice taken up a few notches?

Naylor with another inaccurate, though strong, heave from RF. Will he smooth out this wrinkle?

The alternative site teams are now playing games. Our guys have played two.

Mercado is 3-7 with two dingers and six ribbies.

Bradley is 1-7 and Johnson is 0-7.

Seldom does a guy in Naquin's position get non-tendered and come back on a minor league invite to his old team...it just doesn't happen. Only way we keep him was agreeing on a number to avoid arbitration and that number wasn't going to happen, not when the guy has only played more than 89 games once in his career. He's going through one of his legendary hot streaks and I hope he milks it for all its worth. I'm still sick about the way he sacrificed himself in Tampa to try and save the team's playoff chances...cost him so much. I'll never forget that effort, it was big time professional. He'll be a guy I always root for.

You nailed it. Bauers is the superior defensive player to Chang, so it late inning situations when the Tribe is winning he’ll stay in to face lefties.

Naylor is getting the chance to be a full time player and he deserves it. He doesn’t have negative splits and he already had 2 hits yesterday.
