He's a great fit on this roster imo, I would sign him to an extension. Still only 25, he's got a lot of good years left in him.
The only issue is that he might struggle to crack the rotation if everyone's healthy. Of course, hard to tell who's going to be on the roster next season, but the guard/wing rotation is already pretty deep - and there's a pretty good chance the Cavs will add another draft pick there as well. He's a great fit on this roster imo, I would sign him to an extension. It would need to be cheap. KPG & Okoro are similar sized and also capable of being elite defenders and both are much better offensively. Exum can handle the ball, but so can Sexton, KPG, Dotson, and Garland. If he's a good locker room guy he's worth keeping around, but you can't let him take up much of the salary cap we are going to need as these talented young guys come off of their rookie deals. He's a great fit on this roster imo, I would sign him to an extension. It isn't an either/or thing. We have Okoro and KPJ under contract for four years - we surely could afford to sign Exum to a deal that would end at the same time we'd have to extend either of them.
There are a lot of question marks around KPJ right now, and it never hurts to have a guy like Exum in the rotation anyway.
I think this level of defense means you keep him around, even if he isn't available all the time, or doesn't work for every matchup. I imagine he can be had on a cheap contract similar to Dotson's. He can be a situational defender/backup point.
I can't imagine he has a lot of trade value. I value him more than a 2nd rounder, unless what is coming back is a good player or maybe a young guys with upside. I would trade him for Bagley for instance, but that seems far fetched.
I call him Mr. Glass
Any word, how long he's going to be out.
