In 20 years, kids won’t even know who those men are. That, is the point of not putting them in. Much like the removal of all the monuments and statues, remove all negative history. Despite their importance in telling the story of the game.
How many kids' knowledge of the world is based around a trip to the baseball Hall of Fame?

Not many.

In fact, Rose being out of the hall probably keeps his name more in the public consciousness.

I think these guys should be in, because it makes the story that the Hall can tell that much better. I don't think their inclusion or not will affect whether or not kids know of them, except for the handful of kids who will actually go online and read the list of players in the Hall of Fame.

Do you think they'll know who Ken Griffey Jr is?

I don't think being in the Hall makes you more memorable. I just think that most memorable players are in the Hall.

Records/numbers matter so much to baseball history, and the PED cheaters distorted a number of them.

I hope none of those guys ever get in. I also wish the Commish would use his authority to wipe out the single season home run records of Bonds, Sosa, and McGuiee.

I know there was a typo involved here, but this looks like you gave up on trying to spell his name correctly :chuckle:

M-c-G-uh fuck it-iee

Yes, because Jr is talked about a lot still. You don’t hear much about Bonds anymore, only when the balloting is up.
Maybe I’m wrong, but I just think those guys like Bonds/Sosa/McGwire did so much for the game, they should be in.

You don't have to convince me, I voted for Bonds and McGwire in the poll.

I just don't think being in the Hall makes you more memorable. It's just nice to have more cool exhibits in the museum. Keeping people out of the Hall is just a petty act that really only impacts the fans who visit the place.

How do we feel about Griffey? HOFer? I mean he didn't take the anabolic steroids, but he took other PEDs, I have it on pretty good word.

Those of you who want to keep the steroid users out, is it only the anabolic steroids you hate because it made some players huge, or is it any of the banned substances? Because 75% took something banned, and really all of the all stars did. I just don't understand how and where you draw the line? Its either let them in with no restrictions, let none in from that era or be a hypocrite quite honestly.

I have it on several peoples word that it really was that wide spread. Phoenix is THE baseball town in America, its crazy who is out here and who you can talk to. Josh is my highest connection, but run into people all the time, heck one of my best friend's brother is Assistant GM of the A's and I have talked about this stuff with him.

Since he was inducted years ago I'm going out on a limb to say, yeah, he's a Hall of Famer :chuckle:

I was meaning more should he be....he took some peds from what I know, good sources, the almost all did, I think we are splitting hairs if it matters what type of ped they took.

Barry Bonds was one of the greatest baseball players in history before he started juicing. When he was juicing, the vast vast majority of other players were too. None of them turned into complete gods like Bonds did. A group of baseball writers can't take that away by refusing to vote him into Cooperstown.

Thome used peds, my guy was a scout for the Indians and he told me he did. Maybe not anabolic steroids, but he used banned substances...I went through a list one day....he was completely off record and we talked at kids soccer games, but anyone good practically used some PED, even Lofton. They weren't testing, they didn't care, so of course they are going to do anything they can to get an edge.

Its like Lance Armstrong, sure he used, they all used, anyone good had to use, its that simple.

Thome got away with a lot because he was so nice to the media. The way he left Cleveland should've gotten him ripped but he really wasn't for the most part. He's never been mentioned with PEDs for the same reason. David Ortiz benefits from this as well - media darling so nobody dares to touch it.

One thing I'll note - I know a former MLB player via a friend- not a big star or anything, but still, a MLB-caliber guy - he always said PEDs didn't help guys hit HRs. What PEDs did was give them the energy to get through the grind of a 162 game season, give you an energy boost every day you may not typically have, get you through minor injuries. Just found that interesting.

Steroids made you stronger physically, some peds made you recover quicker to get through the season, either of those things helps you hit more homeruns.

What your friend is saying you have to e able to hit home runs to actually have any peds help you, but peds hep you in lots of different ways.

But did you know the candy bar is not named after Babe Ruth? Its named after Grover Cleveland's Daughter
Perhaps sadly, I did know this. She was clearly not a Hall of Famer
