Sir'Dominic Pointer - A Cleveland Cavalier

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Been a long time since his last bump...coming off of his best scoring game...17 points, 3 boards, 2 assists, 3 steals, and a block...even made a 3 and some tough jumpers...still hoping we lock him in Independence and force feed him jump shots all summer.

Had a chance to interview both Pointer and Cook after a Canton Charge practice in December. Very humble kids. Cook will make it into the league one day, Pointer is a good defensive player, but needs to work on his offensive game.

Pointer is freaking huge in person as well.

I think there's a good chance, if Mo is not with us next year, that Cook takes his spot as the 3rd PG. He's been a way better player at a pro level than I imagined he would be coming out of Duke...kid can score, and we are going to need a cheap 3rd PG with how much Kyrie and Delly will be making.

As for Pointer, I liken him to a fellow St. John's alum in Jakarr Sampson. Both athletic as hell and can guard a vast number of positions, are good in transition, and can penetrate off the dribble drive a bit...but goddamn they can't shoot worth a shit...makes me wonder what kind of practices Steve Lavin and his staff were having up there.

Maybe if pointers defense is as good as advertised, we could use him against GS. Seriously we need another good wing defender and even of he can't shoot he puts pressure on the d with his penetration. He can finish and drive better than shump

Just my opinion, but:

I don't think there's any chance he'll be ready this year. He has good size and athleticism needed to successfully play minutes in the NBA as a swingman, but his offensive game is in the cellar. Right now, if given the same opportunity, Cunningham would do much better given the difference in experience. As we've seen from most players transitioning from the D-League to the big boy's league, the difference in performance and impact is THAT much greater.

Regardless, I could see him making it, but he needs time.

This. He has potential, but his offensive game is still so far away from where it needs to be.

Let's at least give the guy an offseason with NBA level coaching before we say that. With the way our vet min wing signings have panned out the last 2 offseasons, wouldn't be surprised if they go for a more youthful option with a growth factor instead of a regressing factor.

And Quinn Cook DNP-CD. Perhaps they are moving him?

16 points on 7-12 shooting...I like that he is trending up.

I dont think we even hold his draft rights anymore. We didnt sign him and he is not playing abroad, i think we lost his rights.

Nope, we own his rights. Same thing OKC did with Josh Huestis.
