Slingin' Sammy "Super Soaker" Merrill

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
JBB is who he is. And we will need Dean and Merrill in the playoffs and they won’t have played more than a handful of meaningful minutes in 2 months

Totally knew what the present scenario was going to be. All the posters on the forum and Twitter calling for minutes for Dean was somewhat comical knowing full well what was going to happen. And you’re probably right on the end result.

240 available minutes in a game. 160, at minimum, go to an average starting lineup (more if the game is close). That leaves 80 minutes for any non-starters to play. Okoro, Levert, Niang, Wade, Merrill, CPJ, and anyone else need to fight for meaningful minutes, differentiate themselves, and earn more time.

Okoro is the best guard defender. Considering how the League goes, he provides a benefit the team doesn't otherwise have. 20-25mpg.

Levert provides secondary playmaking with Don, or DG, or as a primary ballhandler. Other than Don and DG, UDFA CPJ is the only other one that can provide that skillset. 20-25mpg.

That leaves 30-40mpg for the 8-11 guys on the squad (and avg <10mpg each). And thats IF its a blowout one way or the other.

Niang, for all his faults and struggles, provides toughness/attitude and a willingness to shoot from deep, which is almost as important for spacing as making them. He can also complete straightline drives to the basket on closeouts. 15-20mpg.

15-20mpg for all of Wade, Merrill, CPJ IF its a blowout. 5-7mpg each. Until Kobe is ready to conslidate assets, this is how it's gonna be.

I’m going to push back a bit because it’s too easy to simply complain he didn’t get minutes. Instead, can you offer a suggestion for who’s minutes should have been cut and at what point in the game in order to get Merrill in?

Almost everyone had a positive impact on the court tonight outside of Dean, and we already also want JB to find more minutes for him as well. I didn’t see anyone’s minutes that were so far out of line, especially with how close the game was in the 4th.

It’s “frustrating” to have a deep enough team that really good players are getting squeezed, but it’s also a damn good problem to have.

Levert, he’s been pretty crap this year I don’t get the hype. Offense is stagnant when he’s in the game and he’s shooting a putrid 41% from the field this season. He’ll have one good game and everybody seems to forget the previous 3/4 crappy ones..

Merril has literally been a top 5 shooter in the league this season on high volume and while he was getting big minutes we were winning games. It’s mind boggling to me that we can’t find at least 15 mins a game for him.

the numbers below dont account for last night

Donvan Mitchell's minutes while Garland was out 35:21, since Garland has come back 34:52. Basically the same number of minutes (Which it should be)

Okoro: Issac has seen a drop of 3 minutes a game 28:40 to 25:30,

Straus: went from 32:30 to 29, meaning 3:30 minutes a game lost.

Merrill is where we see the huge drop off: 23 minutes a game, to 12. In the last 5 games that average is down to 10

and now we get down to Lavert and JBB's love for him. In the time that Garland was out Lavert was averaging 26:40 a game, Since garland has come back Lavert's minutes have slipped by all of 80 god damn seconds, and he is playing 25:20 a game (i ignored the game he got injured). Whats worse is that the difference drops to basically 40 seconds, if you eliminate 1 game in which Lavert played randomly for 35 minutes while Garland was out. So basially Lavert hasnt seen any decrease in playing time since Garland came back.

So the easy answer to your question is you cut Caris Lavert's minutes... you know at fucking all and you give them to Merrill

Jb is already forgetting Merrill literally saved the Cavs with his shooting in upsets of the Rockets and especially woeful December Luka when Mitchell was out.

Mitchell/LeVert lineups are awful. They kill the team. Merrill should be the first man in when Mitchell is on the floor alone. He unlike Garland, doesn't need that extra ball handler. His exterior passing is good, 3 other shooters need to be there.

Bickerstaff has honey up his ass. His job was saved by injuries and being forced to play guys he doesn’t like.
Now they’re healthy and it’s back to the same shit.

Nice data but you already had me at “cut LeVert’s minutes.”
