Small Forward Safari (2022-23 edition)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The more I think about it, Royce O'Neale really seems like the swiss arm knife the Cavs need to go hard after this off-season..

Looking through available options, it's hard to find a Kevin Love replacement at the 4/5 spot to mesh with Mobley on the second unit.. There just aren't many guys that offer the volume shooting + rebounding.. But with the good minutes the Mobley + Stevens have been getting it makes me think plugging in O'Neale to that role (Mobley + O'Neale + LeVert + Garland + Rubio) might make that lineup go..

O'Neale is intriguing for a few reasons--
1). He provides a veteran presence and fallback for Okoro... O'Neale is the exact role Okoro needs to be, and what better guy to have then O'Neale to help guide... If Okoro can't take that next step, O'Neale would slide right into the starting lineup and give that exactly what they need..
2). He provides the small-ball 4 but also allows Wade a chance to reclaim that spot with O'Neale being able to slide down to the wing whenever needed.. Wade is really the Cavs best bet to replace Love... Considering the contract he's signed to, the Cavs likely give him another shot and the Cavs would really be better if he can reclaim that spot..

On top of all that, it doesn't hurt that O'Neale is close with Mitchell..

O'Neale really just seems like the swiss-army knife to make all their lineups work and also provide a fallback option for a lot of different scenarios that could fail to materialize... I don't know what it will take but wonder if Cedi + Merrill (salary filler) + 3 2nds would be enough with O'Neale on an expiring deal.. Who knows, maybe Marks falls for his fellow countryman Travers to clinch the deal..

yep I love Royce O'Neale as a target.
I also wonder if we should speak to Atlanta, their team has a heap of nice shooting wings but their team sucks, maybe they want to shed one from the payroll..

Marks is from New Zealand, Travers is from Australia

O'neale fetched a 1st when he was last traded...

I love Royce O'Neale's game... He's either a point forward or a power guard. The Nets are wasting his talents as their seventh or eighth man. I don't know if the Cavs can offer enough to get him.

Feels like a problem for July. I'm excited to see if this roster can shock the world.
