Small Forward Safari (2022-23 edition)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ross is heading to Phoenix, apparently...

Makes sense to me. They are a more legit contender than us with KD but he also would have a bigger role than in Boston since they gutted their wing depth for him in the trade.

You're either in an 8-man playoff rotation, or not. Absent injury, Ross wouldn't be in that rotation in Boston.
Looking at the Suns roster, they are incredibly thin and have a few key injuries to Payne the backup up PG and Saric, their only legit PF unless you play Drant there

TJ Warren is hurt too, Ross really could help the Suns, after they gave away all of their SF depth, depending on where you play Durant...who is also hurt right now.

So 4 major injuries for the Suns.

Stanley Johnson is an interesting player. Combo forward who can shoot but doesnt defend to well. We skipped out on poor defenders at the deadline, but this wouldnt take any assets if he wants to play in cleveland.

I dont think he plays over Wade, he has been horrible defensively this year on a young Spurs team. He can score though. I wouldnt hate the addition, but just helps depth, not sure he cracks a rotation without injuries.

I would pass on Stanley Johnson. Despite the jump in 3 point percentage its on extremely low volume. And he has been a horrendous 3 point shooter his entire career prior to this season.

I wouldnt say herendous, recently about 33% prior. Its his defense that gives me pause.

Didn't Saric get traded the other day?

33% on 2 3 point attempts per game is pretty bad still. We need floor spacing and wing defense. And Stanley provides neither.

Johnson is interesting but a bit redundant with Stevens already here and with an option for next year... Similar players in role and strengths/weaknesses..

You arent going to find both at this point from a buy out player, Green is close as you get, but he needs a time machine to be both.

That said, I am not advocating for Stanley, a player entering his prime who is getting cut by his 6th team in 5 years. Not only does he not defend, (the 3 point shooting jump might be real), he might be a poor locker room guy or why does Pop cut him?

I can agree with that, Stevens is a better defender, but not as good of a shooter if his stat jumps are real.

If either Stevens or Stanley Johnson is on the floor for us in the playoffs, we better be up by 30 with 2 minutes left in the game. Otherwise, something has gone very very wrong.

Lamar has been seeing time in the rotation before Love the last couple weeks. Not sure if its because Love isnt 100% or his defense is that bad.

But Lamar could get time if someone gets in foul trouble unless Love jumps him in the rotation.
