So Long Jordan Clarkson ( aka Chucky McJumperson)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Here's a column from a Jazz site about the significant positive impact Clarkson has already had on the team.

Bottom line is they love the guy. They had the second lowest scoring bench in the league and he scored 19 and 20 the last two games going 7-for-13 from the field in each game.
Jazz robbed the Cavs.

Another horrible trade by Koby. Basically gave him up for free.

Clarkson is only usefull to a playoff team needing bench scoring. He got 2 2nd rd picks and a possible useful young player, not a bad trade at all. In Cleveland Clarkson is an expiring with zero value, some of you think that other GM's are idiots for some reason.

It’s not a bad trade to YOU. It’s a horrible trade to me.

Gave Clarkson up for peanuts. We’ll see the trade value around the league come deadline, and once a trade for a lesser player net something significant, I’m sure like always the tune will change around here.

I'd like to say. I think Cavs fans valued him higher than others and it was still a good trade for the jazz. They wanted more mistakes from Porter.

Exum has been good so far.

I'll never forget Clarksons first game with the Cavs, draining shots and LeBron looking so happy to have him. Good times. So much hope, only to end in flames :(

I think Koby moved Clarkson because it open up flexibility for future trades. GMs knew that the Cavs would only have ~200k before hitting the luxury tax. Now they have closer to 4 million to work with. He knew that they would get squeezed for less value on every other trade if they couldn't create room. Clarkson probably was worth a 1st round pick but they got 2 second round picks and Exum. They probably can turn those 2 second rounders, another second rounder, and some cash into a 1st round pick like they did to get Porter. They were going to get squeezed for more than a 2nd round pick in value in future trades if they stayed at just 200k below the luxury tax.

"I hope you see what I see in Dante [Exum]. I see a versatile player that is really going to help us down the road." - Beilein

Add in the two 2nd round picks, the financial flexibility (which may or may not be used), and the additional minutes for Porter and this looks like it could potentially be a very good deal, especially since Clarkson would probably have signed elsewhere after this season. It might even help us keep our top 10 draft pick. We might have beat Charlotte last night with Clarkson and there may be other close games down the road that he might have been the difference between winning and losing.

But if Exum fails to develop, if the draft picks don't get us anybody useful, and if no trades materialize and the additional cap space is not needed, then the deal is pretty much a wash. It's definitely looking like a win for Utah. I don't see how it can be a loss for the Cavs. If Exum develops into a useful piece off the bench and we end up using the draft picks to get a contributor, then it's a win.

Clarkson was causing issues for our young guards ability to properly develop. It was addition by subtraction.

I remember when we traded for Clarkson in 2018, and after the first two weeks we thought we had a total steal and the lightbulb was coming on for him .

Then as soon as the playoffs hit, dude was immediately back to an inefficient chucker who made continuously poor decisions with the basketball and couldn't hit an important shot to save his life.

Also, we should remember it is Clarkson's contract year. This is likely the best, most professional effort you'll ever get out of him.

I'm very content with the 2 2nds. the flexibility under the tax to make other moves and the ability to take a flyer on Exum or alternatively flip his expiring deal next year and do it all over again. It was the right move. I don't think it's a coincidence that Garland is really starting to put things together with one ego-driven ballhog gone from the rotation.

Rumour has it: it was Clarkson who went to the media complaining about Coach B's system. If true, we don't need bad influences around the kids
At first I wasn't wild about the trade, but in the end Clarkson would be gone at the end of the season. And second round picks are just a mystery. We got KPJ for 4 of then.

Clarkson was a turd to Garland. No surprise his pg skills have awakened since the trade. Wait until Clarkson throws up a couple of turds into the Nuggets face and they take a wide sniff.

Too many of us forget that game in Boston.

Things looked 10000% different, only to end worse than we expected.

... and if that doesn't happen, then will your tune change?

Because I don't think you're going to see a sixth-man volume scorer, on an expiring contract, going for much more than what the Cavs got. What do you think they could have gotten?

The Cavs got two future seconds, a chance to try out a former top-five pick in Exum (and so far, he's been solid off the bench), $4 million in reduced salary this season (which could make additional deals before the trade deadline possible) ... and removed a player who was hampering the young guards' progress and who was likely one of the sources of the Athletic's "the coach is losing the team" piece a few weeks back. YMMV, and obviously does ... but that seems like a pretty good return for a guy who would be gone in three months.

Anybody that calls that a "horrible' trade on fluff like Clarkson seriously on drugs.
