Spring Training Game 1 v. Cincinnati Reds 3:05pm Eastern

Will Dion hitting 93 on the gun! Slowest FB that inning was 91.3.

Interesting.
They said that he was not happy with his location last year and thus worked a lot in Arizona on his delivery. Part of the outcome was the higher velo so it should not be just a short stint increase in velo.

I projected Dion to be in the pen long term, so I wonder if that's gonna happen?

Last year was a rough one for Dion for sure. If he ends up consistently averaging 92 on his FB going forward, he becomes interesting again and his stock as a starting pitcher rises quickly.

The fact he was second in and went two full innings/25 pitches tell me they are going to keep developing him as a starter for now and likely for as long as they can.

Noel has now Kd five times in seven plate appearances.

It's still very early, but...
Rough start for Big Christmas for sure, he was ice cold to start the year last season for Columbus... Hopefully he's just a slow starter.

Kayfus with another hit, a single off a lefty MLB relief pitcher.

Starting to think a Kayfus debut in 2025 isn't that farfetched. Wonder if they will give him some reps in RF at some point.

Be Interesting how they play it all out -- As tomorrow is Allen then McK with Lively on Friday?

GM 1 - McK - Allen
GM 2 - Lively - Allard - Nickhazy
GM 3 - Cantillo - Cecconi
GM 4 - Ortiz
GM 5 - Williams - Dion

So far No Webb nor Bibee

Ingle now 3-3 in ST with 2 walks

Devers had a huge HR. Thought he maybe on his last legs as he only hit .216 last year. But, been hearing that he hits everything hard. Hopefully his contact rate improves to actually use that power.

I don't see the 2025 because of Santana, Manzardo combo at the big league level...

A major injury to one of them early likely puts Pries as the short term guy...

If this was a team that didn't have Manzardo... I could definitely see Kayfus forcing his way up to the big league club this season...

Youngster Jose Devers is off to a hot start this spring.

Cooper Ingle currently batting 1.000 this ST.

Disagree with this.

Major injury likely results in Noel moving to 1st and JRod getting reps in right.

Kayfus has 50+ AA games already. His performance could force a MLB opening in 2025.

Remember, that Arias and Freeman have 1st base glove. Not a long-term solution, but a back-up to the back-up in case of injury. Thus, Pries is kind of stuck behind Santana, Manzardo and Noel with those 2 filling in when needed.

Doesn't really have the arm for RF, but you never know.

Pries isnt gonna block anybody from anything.

He is a warm body filler.

Delauter?

He played in Arizona, and was healthy when the AFL was over. He's had three months since then to work on preventative maintenance, but for some reason he isnt ready yet?

This sounds a lot like the 'abundance of caution' excuse when Espino didn't return from tweaking his knee in 2022.
