You know, wherever the 2022 season takes us, I can say right now the most pleasant surprise to me has been Steven Kwan.
He has never been in the majors before, and now has about 350 AB's and over 100 hits. He's made adjustments to whatever the pitchers throw.
That's amazing to me.
He's been the starting LF, and the leadoff hitter. He's now a bonafide major league player with a bright future.

Last season, if I was interested in prospects, I would look to see how Valera or Espino were doing. Kwan wasn't even on my radar.
It's so easy to dismiss a player that doesn't have classic size.

No, he won't win rookie of the year, and has little power.
But Ichiro, Rod Carew, and Tony Gwynn made fine careers playing like that.

I would even say Kwan has some room to improve his power numbers and maybe even his walk rate. Really seems like Kwan could stick in the bigs compared to some other OF hopefuls the Guards have had over the past 5-6 years. Even if Kwan never improves his power, I think he becomes a #2 hitter...but someone is going to have to take it away the leadoff spot from him.

I think Giminez's improvement both at 2nd and at the plate is right there with Kwan. But that doesnt mean i dont have a man crush on Kwan too.

Agree with most of this but really unfair to compare Kwan with Ichiro, Carew, and Gwynn.

Fantastic lead off hitter and intelligent baseball player. His lack of prototypical corner OF power makes me want someone in CF that is above average in that department or at least can hit like Kwan.

I'd say you if you feel this way about Kwan then you should keep your eye on Brennan.

Kwan has better bat control while Brennan definitely has more power potential.

But honestly, Kwan I think really did give us a spark. We aren't in the place we are without him. He is getting team MVP votes...

For many years I have been an advocate of long-sequence offense, and I think it can be astonishingly effective in today's game.
Work the counts, get on base, and good things will happen quickly. I think this has never been truer.

The single most important counting stat is outs and the single most important percentage is their frequency.

No, not really. Look at the numbers Coach. They're pretty much identical. Even their walk and SO rates are very similar.

You're damn right Kwan gave us a spark. Who would be our leadoff hitter without him? Imagine if Brennan was our CFer and hitting similar to Kwan. I'm not trying to be argumentative here, I'm just excited at the possibilities.

Bimbo even said it himself, Kwans bat control is better than Brennan's. A lot of people have Kwan as having the best bat control in all of baseball. Now that being stated, Brennan is very good himself so it's not like I am knocking him in any way...

We might even be able to have Kwan be the MVP in the sense, we knew what JRam could do, but someone else needed to step up and help him and Kwan has been able to be a table setter and I think he also helped the new batting coach since he is a perfect example for his style...

Let's not get carried away here Coach. Kwan has been a blessing for sure, but his 118 OPS+ isn't going to win him this team's MVP honors. Something about JRam's 157 OPS+ suggests that choosing Kwan would be a silly, undeserving choice.

I'm not arguing with you, Bimbo or anyone else when it comes to Kwan and Brennan's bat control. The numbers are the numbers. Questioning Brennan's ability to find immediate success as Kwan did is a legitimate question though.

MVP isn't always about the numbers... It's about how they affect the players around them as well. I think Kwan's ability to always seem to get on base and just make contact helps everyone else out around him... Numbers don't actually show the level of bat control and I never said Brennan wouldn't find success. We are trying to compare a honeycrisp to a fuji apple here. Both are good are they not?

My point was that I don't think we have the season we do without Kwan. I really don't believe we would be this close to a playoff berth without his spark and the fact of how he adjusted back...

The reincarnation of Tony Gwynn has been a godsend- this team has finally developed an OFer they can keep. The Kwan Base Machine always being on base is also why Jose's numbers look so good, too, can't rack up RBIs and big hits without someone to drive in.

stop looking at me Kwan.
