Stocks to Watch Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
have you checked the stock since we made our two posts? Tesla is now the most valuable US car company in history, as it should be because it's not a car company, it a technology company that happens to make great cars and is bringing Silicon Valley style innovation to the car industry. Competition is so far behind some are going to dissapear.

Your previous post shitting on Ford's inclusion of a physical knob is interesting.

I would say physical controls are necessary. A completely touchscreen focused interface is not the correct decision for an instrument where your eyes shouldn't be focused on the instrument (vehicles and remotes come to mind first).

I don't think I hold any individual stocks other than AMD anymore. Got out of NVIDIA, Tesla, Verizon, etc and just moved everything into Vanguard mutual funds.

My personal investing philosophy has always been to only invest in areas where I feel I have superior knowledge/understanding/insight. If I don't have that, any perceived value I have has already been taken into account by the market.

The criticism is putting the knob in the middle of the display. No UI person would do that. Tesla does have two physical controls on the steering wheel, one on each side and can be used, along with voice input, to control everything you need to do while driving.

I obviously disagree with "No UI person would do that" because, well, obviously the UI team at Ford designed it that way. There's also not much difference between placing the knob underneath the display, or where they placed it (at the bottom of the display, centered). In today's world, extending the display to surround the knob is probably the preferred and more common option.

If you want to debate the knob choice, have at it. I'm not sure it's the correct choice, but I also haven't experienced it.

We also typically refer to these teams as "UX" or "CX" for user experience or customer experience. The User Interface is a responsibility of those teams.

They took a bit map touch screen display and limited what a significant region of it can be used for, forever. I guess when most of the industry hasn't even figured out the value of over the air software updates, they end up doing things like this too.

Let's pretend the height of the current display is 10".

Would you prefer an 8" display with a knob beneath it, or just extend the display to surround the knob, making it the current 10"?

Neither, I'd prefer display be usable for other purposes with software upgrades without sacrificing screen size. Would you want a volume control button on the display of your phone or TV?

And while we're having this debate, Tesla stock up another $17 to $486, was below $400 just 3 weeks ago (which was an all time high at the time).

edit: up another $5 in the 7 minutes since I posted that.

Uber and Beyond Meat are pretty much Buys for me at this point.

Uber being the more risky play of the two.

Beyond Meat is incredibly interesting considering the massive rise in veganism across the US especially.

Uber is way risky - not sure how they survive when self driving vehicles (with no driver to pay) starts competing with them

I agree with Beyond Meat

Seems like a far off time for driverless cars.

I know I cannot see myself at this point in time getting into a vehicle with no human driver. Would take a lot for me to do so.

Uber has many more avenues of growth as well from their meal delivery to various other services they could potentially provide.

Just one mans opinion.

I read an article today that mentioned Tesla has a bigger market cap than Ford + GM and (if not now, soon). I couldnt believe it.

Beyond Meat
Apple
Visa (since they just bought Plaid)
DIsney (still a lot of upside IMO)
Tesla
Nvidia

all solid longterm buys IMO

Meal delivery could be big for them, however, it's easier to have competition there. Their value is name recognition, which is more important traveling (ride sharing) than in any single local market (delivery)

when you remove the cost of paying a driver, cut fuel costs to 3 cents/mile, and eliminate the obligation to tip, self driving EVs will be so much cheaper that uber won't be able to compete. And it doesn't matter if many people use them at first, what matters is when the safety data comes out and proves they are vastly safer. I don't think there is anyone who has used many uber/lyft/taxis who hasn't been in cars with drivers who scare them.

world is moving to EVs, Tesla is years ahead of everyone
