Tanking alive and well in MLB

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
At least 1st round picks in MLB are somewhat likely to bust, more so than in NBA for instance.

Going from 2000 on you have Bryan Bullington, Delmon Young, Matt Bush, Luke Hochevar, Tim Beckham, Mark Appel, Brady Aiken, Mickey Moniak on one hand, Adrian Gonzalez, Joe Mauer, Justin Upton, David Price, Stephen Strasburg, Gerrit Cole, Carlos Correa, Dansby Swanson on the other.

Still that's about 50% success rate in finding really good to exceptional MLB players.

This is why our 16 draft is looking pretty good.... If we get Jones as an everyday player, getting 4 legit players from one draft is pretty dang good..

Bullington, if I recall correctly, was picked first because the Pirates thought they could sign him, not because he was the overall top talent.

While a few others had moments in MLB, 50% have made a difference.

Half of the prospects chosen #1....

And yet we want to keep hoarding prospects.

And the Orioles can “tank” all they want. They still are in the same division as the Yankees and Boston, who will spend them into the ground.

I don’t want to “hoard” prospects, but I also don’t want to give them away. I’m fine with trading from surplus to get a solid controllable bat. Getting a proven bat that has 3-5 years of control ain’t easy though.
