Since I'm in a thread-creating mood tonight, I figured I'd go ahead and create one about the greatest multi-player shooter of all time. This game ain't for CoD-fags or Gaylo fans. This is a real PC shooter, complete with rocket jumping, people exploding in what the pros call gibs, no pussy-ass aimbot (seriously, get some skill, bitches), and, of course, lots and lots of hats. If your current shooter doesn't have hats, you can't really call yourself a man.

Have you ever wished your shooter had some personality?

Fuck yes you do!

Not only that, but this game has web comics that that feature stories that are (sadly) better than the stories in the shitty shooter you play.

And while the shitty shooter you play has a bunch of pansy guns, Team Fortress 2 lets you be an actual man:

That's right. You can do your murdering with a motherfucking bow and arrow, complete with headshots and the ability to pin corpses to the wall. Can you shoot a rocket-jumping enemy in the face and embarrass the shit out of him in Call of Duty? I think not. And if you can't do that, what's the point of living at all?

Finally, when you're playing whatever shitty shooter you play, haven't you ever thought, "Hey, I just killed that douchebag. I wish I could embarrass him further."? Well, Team Fortress 2 even has an answer for that: TAUNTS.

What's more? This game is fucking free.

Oh, and did I mention hats?

I'll leave you with this video:

There are better videos, but I'm lazy and I'm watching my guilty pleasure DVR of MTV's The Challenge, so fuck you guys.

And on the off chance any of you assholes has good taste and actually plays this game, link me to your Steam ID. Just know that if you suck, I will probably stop playing with you.

I'm surprised you have any time to play a game with all the threads you're busy creating.

Also, I loved this game, but it's taken a backseat to other pursuits (i.e., different games).

Ah the glories of the laptop. I can create threads while doing other things!

I use to play Counterstrike in highschool. I would ask to go to the library but instead would head down to the computer programming lab and played that there. I, for one, play Call of Duty AND Halo...they aren't gay. Here's a shock for you guys as well..I also have played Team Fortress 2, its one of the games that was in the "Orange Box" games (I got it because of Half-Life 2)..so HL2, TF2 and Portal!

I like being the Sniper on TF2 so I can just run around with a machete and get people haha.

Portal I tried once and was getting frustrated with it so I haven't played it since.

TF2, however, is a fun game though! Touche' on making a thread about it!

CS:S > Halo > Half Life 2 > COD > TF2

tf2 came out in 2007. Prior to it becoming free it cost 50 dollars as part of the orange box package which included hl2 ep 2 and portal. The game never once made you spend extra money on a map pack or weapons for which there have been several. It is absolutely the best value in gaming ever.

Meanwhile you have ea and activision nickel and dimeing you for their pittance of content they release every so often. Valve has released 100s of dollars worth of content all free. It is more like this.. Valve >>>>>>>> any other first person shooter developer.

It was also twenty dollars stand-alone on the PC if you preferred to buy it that way.

And yes, the free content is awesome. There's actually the annual Smissmas update coming either tonight or tomorrow (I'm assuming as Valve is likely on vacation all next week), which includes a new map, new weapons, and a variety of holiday-themed cosmetic items and weapons. All in all, TF2 has probably seen at least twenty updates that released significant chunks of content (maps or new weapons or new game modes), along with over a hundred more that optimized the game or fixed lingering bugs. Maps are balanced from time to time as well based on user data.

That's the page for the Smissmas update.

I never even knew there was a TFC 2. I used to get up at 7 in the morning when I was in middle school to play before the bus came.

I was usually a medic or a an engineer. I miss playing the custom maps too like murderball and the house maps. My God now I want to play.

Anyone has TF2 on the 360 (orange box one) and want me to play, add me: Heils1578. May not be the greatest, but damn I love being the Sniper and killing people with the machete!

Yeah TFC was an amazing game. I remember playing sniper in it on a 56K modem connection. Before they implemented hitscan, I had to predict where people would be a second or two after I shot them. I got really good at it, and then of course Valve patched the game and I had to re-learn how to snipe.

Bro, get the PC version. It's free and it's five years old. It doesn't require a supercomputer to run it.

It isn't really tfc 2 and im not sure if there ever really was a team fortress 1. There has been tons of team fortress iterations with I believe the first one being a mod for quake or quake 2. I use to play tfc a lot as well as quake 3 fortress.

The main difference between all the other team fortress mods is the personality that they injected into each class and also the removal of grenades. Only the demoman has access to grenades with their grenade launcher and sticky bomb gun. In my opion that was a great balancing move because people use to cook grenades and come around the corner and lob them in your face.

The personalities though are fantastic. I have never seen anything like this in a first person shooter. Each class has their own video which kind of demonstrates their abilities as well as their unique personality. I would definitely recommend watching all of them.

Yeah, definitely need to get the pc version. Microsoft are being a little Jewish not letting valve release free content (which has been a metric ton) so you are stuck with all the mega old stock content from 2007.

On a sidenote i'm so happy that valve is coming out with their little steam box which will be running linux and be able to run side by side with your pc. Microsoft has kind of screwed the pooch with their treatment of pc gamers and if valve gets enough customers with their steam box, guess where all the pc development will ship to.

Microsoft keeping all their published titles on xbox not seeing a pc release(we got 1 Halo game), their shitty games for windows live, which is a massive inconvenience, and their killing of hardware driven sound with vista, I think they have done enough to stifle the pc gaming community.

The original was Quake Team Fortress, which Robin Walker (who now works at Valve) was one of the main developers of. I don't remember the whole story (so forgive me if I'm off on some of the details), but Valve bought the Team Fortress property and the development team was assimilated by Valve, much like they assimilated the Counter-Strike team when that mod took off. Team Fortress Classic was developed by Valve and released as a free mod for the original Half-Life. Team Fortress 2, obviously, is a stand-alone game that was also part of The Orange Box.

There have been unofficial Team Fortress mods for other games, but those are the three that were developed either by Valve or the original creators. Valve never seemed to much care, though, because I don't recall any of them getting shut down for copyright infringement.

While the personality of TF2 is fantastic, what really keeps me coming back is the gameplay. It's definitely more balanced than it was in TFC, but it's still very familiar, and that's why I loved both games. Team Fortress is just different from the mass of military shooters and Halo-clones. There are nine classes and all of them are noticeably different with different strategies and maneuverability. There just aren't many other multi-player shooters that are anything like it.
