Televisions

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Could be the difference between the different HDR formats and how well different TVs support each of the options.

My tv has HDR10 and that's what Disney is using. I think the shows on Amazon that I've watched are in HDR10.

Disney is using Dolby Vision. At least for star wars

They also support HDR10, they have it listed on each show/movie I've watched so far on the app. It doesn't simply say HDR on the app like Amazon but it says HDR10. My samsung tv doesn't support Dolby Vision so my guess is they wouldn't put the icon for it in the app.

Maybe Disney+ content will look better in Dolby Vision. To me the HDR10 content doesn't look as good as the HDR10 content I've watched on Amazon.

Well my game plan is to get a 43 inch 4k tv for around 200 now and then wait until the Ps5 comes out before I go for all the bells and whistles. I'm not exactly sure what is crucial for the Ps5 looking at the specs but some people say HDMI 2.1. Which there does not seem to be any cheap options so I'll wait.

Right now I have an Element tv from 2011. Yeah. Even the cheapest 4k HDR tv is going to feel like I advanced 20 years. And then after that, if I do get one of these top of the line for the Ps5 in a year, it's going to feel like another big advance. I'm also still using my day one Ps4.

I still haven't tried out VR. Thinking about picking up a PSVR actually. That Vader Immortal game looks amazing though on Quest, I'm just not trying to go too crazy with my money, especially never trying VR before.

Best buy has 30 day returns.

Don't waste your money on a PSVR. I had one and the resolution was too low and the screen door effect got way too annoying. I end up just selling it.
My guess the next generation of PSVR will be alot better if they make one.

I got an LG 43 inch 4k tv for 250 with tax. Annoyingly I didn't realize my tv stand was too small for it. So I bought a 30 dollar cheap "coffee table" to put it on lol. That thing looks sturdy enough to be 5 dollars. But it is weird because it sits roughly 16 inches off the ground.

Between that and it being much bigger than my last tv, gaming on it is a big adjustment. The picture was nice, but all the settings are very overwhelming to me. I need to fine tune it to get the best picture. The presets seemed either too bright or too dark. HDR messages and HDMI deep color message would pop up. I don't know if there is motion blur or something too, but there was some weird effects going on when I was gaming.

If you play games, its hard to recommend anything other than a lg c9. It's the only tv capable of 4k 120 hz, it's the only television certified as gsync compatible, it has input latency on par with any gaming monitor at 144 hz you will find, and it's an oled so it will destroy lcd's in contrast and even beats the fastest tn panels in response time.

It's so good as a display that i've ditched desktop gaming and setup my pc as an htpc because they refuse to make oled panels in the desktop range.

how is the glare on those? I thought about OLED for our living room when we bought TV in there, but we have quite a bit of sunlight in that room during the daytime.

It's better than my previous tv, but there is still some glare. You can turn the oled light up in the daytime to mitigate reflections, but id wait till night to watch darker content which is where oled obliterates everything on the market. Here is from the rtings review:

"
Screen Finish

: Glossy
Total Reflections

: 1.4 %
Indirect Reflections

: 0.1 %
The LG OLED C9 has outstanding reflection handling, very similar to last year's C8. Like many high-end TVs, the anti-reflective coating adds a slight purple tint. There should be no issues using the TV in a bright room, but if you have a lot of windows it might not be bright enough to completely overcome glare.
