The 2020 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
With Kipnis off the books, is there an opportunity to add someone or will they possible look at extending Los beyond next year and bringing back Kip on a much friendlier team deal 1 yr 4-5 M? I’ve seen some put 6M and the going rate for a starting 2nd baseman is higher, but frankly he owes the Indians for they they’re done for him financially. He did not earn that past K.
FYI - There is a team option on Carlos Santana for the 2021 season..

@Andrew Scheid @Stark
Dozier was slightly better than Kip this year, and worse the year before. If that's what we're going after, couldn't we just bring Kip back?

A year of Todd Frazier is something I'd be interested in. Brock Holt is another guy I like because he'd have value as a utility guy if Chang or someone else steps up. As an everyday 2B option, I like Howie Kendrick.

Yeah, if my choice is either Jason Kipnis or Brian Dozier for the exact same price, I'm going to go with Kipnis. While Dozier might be the slightly better player right now, I'd rather keep the guy that has been around the organization for a decade.

Frazier had himself a solid rebound season after being trash in 2018. I'd maybe think about bringing him in and sticking him at 3B and moving Jose to 2B. How is his defense?

Holt is one of the best utility guys in baseball - almost think he's good enough to start 120-130 games a year if he's healthy. Kendrick is one of my dream acquisitions this offseason, but he just hit .344 and had a .966 OPS this year. At age 36, I bet he is going to try to get paid this offseason.

His 2015 and 2016 seasons alone are worth more than what we've paid him for his entire career.

I don't imagine Kendrick will get paid much at all, and it definitely won't be a long-term deal. 1 year $10 million (and I think this is a ceiling) is totally doable.

Frazier is ok at third. I wouldn't call him great, but he's not bad.

I would love to have Holt sliding around the diamond to play 100+ games while giving somebody internal a chance to be the (almost) everyday 2B.

I’d love to have Mickey back but I doubt he would take anything less than a pitching coach job. And we aren’t making a move there.

Have you heard anything lately on Frankie

I know he had issues and little success in 2019 but Travis Shaw still has 2 yrs of arbitration control remaining (2020 & 2021).
He grew up in southern Ohio & went to Kent St for college. He hit 30+ homers in 2017 & 2018 while maintaining a OBP near .350.

It would be interesting to see how much he would cost to acquire from MKE if JRam is moving over to 2B...

We will look at all options at the end of the day. If we can get Shaw for his reduced price then I’d say go for it. We can always cut him if he fails in camp, but we will end up getting a veteran of some type, either Kipnis or a veteran to compete to replace Kipnis with the young guys in camp. Gyorko from the Dodgers May be a target as well since he is a free agent.

Man, you've been pretty optimistic throughout this process.

Got a percentage?

No percentage cause there’s not a lot of confirmed stuff out there, cause both sides are playing things very close to the vest and both sides do not leak to the media.

But I did mention in a previous thread that after Lindor turned an extension down a few years ago, the 2 sides did not talk to each other about a contract...that’s not the case now, that communication has started again.

I’m going to continue to harp on it, and Antonetti just said as much. Lindor wants to stay in Cleveland. That’s not BS just to pump up fans asses just to make them feel better about the situation. He wants to stay. The offer just has to be comparable from the Indians side. I continue to believe we will reach that point because both sides want to see it happen. Re-opening communication is a big deal, IMO.

Bimbo is almost always right on so you just gotta trust the man. Honestly to me if we can figure a deal within 10% of what the market value for him is, then its possible to resign him in my mind. The problem is at the moment we are looking at a minimum of 28 mil a season if not slightly more and with a budget 110 mil plus or minus about 10 mil, just makes it so hard to merit spending that large of a percentage on one player.

Is there any word on when/if our minority owner takes over the Royals, how selling his shares of the Indians will work out?

I'm not sure what to think on this. I want to believe, but with Sherman leaving, the cost-cutting of last year, and the deal Harper just signed, it's just hard to see it happening. It would be a franchise-altering moment though, that's for sure.

Sent a text to my guys, trying to confirm if they heard anything similar.

@AZ_ @BimboColesHair it seems most are assuming Carrasco will be back in the rotation next year and obviously you can't predict how an illness like he has will impact him, but are they confident he'll be able to be a starter once again?
