The 2020 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I view drinking/drugs the same as blowing off responsibilities to hang with groupies.

Shades of grey, to me.

Eventually, you've got to grow up. I hope Clev does.
Fair enough.

If you lump it all together, as you clearly do, I can see where the generalization works.

Right, so if you distinguish legal drinking and smoking as different from shirking your responsibilities by any other method, I could see why you have a disproportionate sense of outrage.

Shirking responsibilities is shirking responsibilities. I've encountered athletes who drink and smoke while managing to take their roles and responsibilities more seriously than those who don't.

Clevenger made a mistake, I'm not going to paint a hyperbole-laden false narrative about someone for it.

But people are going to do what they're going to do.

Here's hoping Clevenger grows up and learns from it.

That is EXACTLY how they handled it.

It wasn't at all about TB's frustration with the fact he hadn't been able to do more for his team in '19, it was all about  Tito. And it wasn't JUST Tito. Sit Antonetti and Chernoff in that room also.
If I ever treated people who work with me that way, once I realized it, I'd be ashamed of myself. I would sit down with them, apologize to them and explain that I'm going to do my best to make sure I don't fail them that way again, and ask them to keep me honest if they ever see me doing it to them or another co-worker.

It's humbling to see guys with reputations as the best of the best still have shortcomings when it comes to managing people.

Do you not see the irony in a post that has both "And you know this how ????" and then dropping that Clevinger does drugs in the Indians locker room?

Believe it or not, this board has a few insiders too. I know a lot of posters are new here
@Gson I believe it was said in jest by Urban. AZ absolutely has a very good knowledge of the indians and I would consider him a indians "insider"
I actually don't think we have any RCF home-grown Indians insiders. I think @AZ_ himself would tell you he's not an Indians insider as much as someone who's just plugged in to baseball in general.

I've smoked weed with players in the clubhouse before. When you're on the 40 man, they don't even test you for it any more.

Its really not that big of a deal, nor would it be shocking to find that a high number of players do cocaine. These are the things you can afford when you make a big league salary.

Can you perform at a high level and consistently meet your responsibilities? That's all that decides whether or not there are ramifications of that behavior.

Clevenger, in this case, failed to be responsible. He rightfully will face consequences for that, but the manner in which he shirks his responsibilities isn't something he gets taxed MORE for compared to anyone else.

That's antiquated behavior, and losing strategy for developing talent.

Regardless, Clev and Plesac took a chance at screwing the pooch for themselves and everyone around them. Maybe 2 others. If in fact any of them catch it and others catch it due to their actions, I wouldn't want to be any of those responsible for sneaking out. Antonetti's gotta be so pissed. Clevinger not coming clean right away is an extra level of jagoff.

I think it depends on your definition of insider. I would consider AZ and Bimbo insiders but are perhaps not as plugged into the organization as some of the Cavs Insiders on this site

While it wasn't player personnel related, AZ mentioned towards the end of 2019 (iirc) that Key Bank and the Indians were ending its partnership. To me that certainly shows someone plugged into the organization. Just one recent example.

its not possible he was more plugged into key bank?

Plugged in more to the business side of sports these days, as opposed to the player level as I previously was.

Moving into a different industry saw to that, but I still try to provide what I can here.

Just as the NBA insiders have always done, and why I come to this board in the first place.

No ill will towards @jup at all, and I believe he called Clevenger's involvement a few days ago. We just disagree on what the fallout of Clev's behavior is and its comparison to other players who have similarly disappointed or avoided accountability earlier in their careers.

This has been, IMO, the healthiest discussion on the Indians forum in quite some time. Really enjoying having some of the guys whom I used to see on the IBI board (I was BuckDrew over there).

Negative, I still have contacts with the business side of the Indians through some older connections from my own time in baseball.

Even though I've moved on to a business venture outside of the baseball industry, I'm still intimately involved with sports business and sometimes with the marketing/PR side.

@The Human Q-Tip I'm still not sure why RenoDeluxe was banned who was perhaps the biggest insider RCF has had and willing to drop some nice hints.
Just a guess....he acted like an insider but wasn't. He posted some really off the wall crap and caused trouble over on the 24/7 site. I had him on ignore.

What is the latest on Naquin? Hard to believe he'd not already be active if he were ready to go...hopefully this week.

I think he broke the toe on 07/22. I read they fit him with some orthotics but he was still in too much discomfort so to the IL he went. Fractures are typically a 4-6 week thing and he's been gone just about 3 weeks. I read a Hoynes article that said they are thinking he could be back any day now. Perez to follow within a couple of days after that.
