The 2020 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Portland, Charlotte, Nashville, Austin, the usual suspects.

so obvious new cities are portland and nashville.

that said it still boggles my mind tampa remains there.
The owners don't need to anymore and probably don't want to. They just signed a new TV deal worth 82 million a year. They were set to make 30 mill in revenue from TV alone by sitting on their hands this year.

Pre-COVID, adding 2 teams was definitely on the agenda.

it absolutely was and still is - Forbes has indicated that covid for this season has only marginally effected the worth of professional sports franchises (tribe still at
1.2 bil +/-) - so its still a great investment for corps and the super rich and with 2 bil being bandied around as the entry fee for 2 expansion teams, owners can divy that up to help them overcome their covid bath (and bieber could be the 1st billion dollar player in a few years)

I hope with the new bargaining agreement they keep the players from reaching that high. How would anyone without taking a mortage, be able to afford season tickets if everything keeps jumping up so high?

Though baseball is a big enough sport with enough of a talent pool to expand by a couple teams and honestly still be pretty competitive without really washing the league down.

The only thing I am going to hate is the fact a new team may end up showing up when all our current A ball talent is at the pros. Someone will get swiped...

leone dfa'd - hill recalled - now we know who to blame for the kc debacle

Obviously the past week of baseball has been painful. But despite a 6 game losing streak, the Indians have a 98% chance at making the postseason.

Like any other year, get in and who knows what can happen. Especially in a season like this where home field advantage means less than ever without fans, even more so if this bubble plan gets approved. The pitching should keep them in any game.

5.5 games up on the Tigers and Orioles with 13 to play. Looks pretty safe.

The White Sox have the best record in the A.L. and the Twins are surging. The A.L. Central is looking very strong.

The Indians will make the playoffs because of the expanded playoff pool. But to think they are world series contenders is lunacy. While the pitching is strong, the hitting is not major league average. Tito might give a shot in the arm to the team when he returns. But he doesn't hit.
Take a good look at this team. Because the roster will be greatly different next season.
Our only hope would be if Dan Gilbert buys the team. But even that's not likely.

Besides different ownership(won't change revenue issues), you are spot on.

Every year..the subject of new ownership is brought up.. nothing happens and the discussion is discarded for use during the next off season.. Rinse Repeat..

Next year.. is next year.. the Tribe does have a couple of weeks before they are heading to either Tampa or Oakland.. I would prefer Tampa..

Yuze guyz?

I think the negotiations for the next CBA are going to be a nightmare. The owners are going to want some form of protection for potentially declining revenues, and I don't think the players are going to be willing to go there. Considering how acrimonious basically everything has become, I thing there is real potential for another lockout.

furthermore the sport desperately needs a salary cap and revenue sharing. The sport is just completely and totally lopsided when it comes to salaries and it destroys the competitiveness. Last season 7 teams were below 100 million salary, mean while 5 were at or above 200 million. Thats a ridiculous gap.

My guess is we end up losing a full season of baseball while they figure it all out

I certainly agree with the sport being lopsided but it should put into prospective just how well run the Indians organization is.

I mean, for our market, the easiest path to success is to tank for a few years, accumulate assets and high draft picks, eventually go on a 3-4 year run, burn it down and do it again.

So this extended run the Indians have been on is truly rare. Especially since they’re continuing to be exceedingly competitive while clearly emphasizing the re-building of the prospect pipeline.

Although it’s frustrating to see this team struggle at times, especially since they’ve been seemingly knocking on that World Series door for awhile now, I do appreciate that we’re consistently watching competitive baseball in September and October for really the last 6-7 years.

Further, yeah it’s gonna suck seeing the Indians trade away Frankie, and everyone is gonna shit on the Dolan’s, but that anger should be directed at the MLB and the MLBPA for making it nearly impossible for small market teams to keep their superstars. Just my 2 cents....
