The 2020 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

I actually really like this article since it names off every player in teams top 30 who are rule 5 eligible. The deadline is tomorrow for finalizing the 40 man roster so we will likely see some minor moves in the next 24 hours.

I know the Indians will add Johnson, McKenzie and Moss. I am waiting to see who else they add but guys like @Derek @BimboColesHair (maybe someone tag AZ_ as well since I know he knows his stuff) do you see anyone if not protected on that list we should target?

Until the final moves are announced (who gets added, who else was moved to create space for additions beyond 2) I'm not thinking about who else might be an interesting target on another team... Too many variables & changes possible.

I was trying to get the talk started since tomorrow I won't be on until way late. That article has the list of who should be added and who may not be but teams could target. I was curious what people thought about those guys who might not make the team but was on that could be targeted list.

I don't anticipate us having an open spot to target anyone.

A team that's trying to win ball games this year shouldn't be guaranteeing an MLB roster spot to some guy in A ball. Leave that to the Orioles.

on the very off chance there is a random spot left on the 40 man so you think we will try to get another INF or LHP in the Rule 5?

I agree with you though, I don’t think we will leave a spot open for the Rule 5 draft. I don’t even remember when the last time we grabbed someone in the Rule 5 that actually made the team. We seem to always lose someone not take someone in it.

Were there some surprises as far as who the Tribe chose to protect?

What is the time frame for these claims to be resolved?

First off-season trying to pay some attention to our farm season, especially with some of our obvious gaps at the major league level currently.

To me my list was honestly only three that we would protect, McKenzie, Moss and Johnson. Guys like Mathias, Tom, Robinson, Oviedo and Hill were on the short list. Mathias got traded while Tom had a great season, he doesn’t have a track record. If anything I am surprised we cut Goody, while still keeping Hoyt and some others who are borderline.

Will be interesting to see how Plawecki performs elsewhere.

Always nice to have a solid defender behind the plate. Especially as we try to bring some of these young pitchers to the big leagues full time.

Derek said he won't be traded this year.

Needless to say...I'm ready to serve him his crow lol.

unless we get an offer we cannot refuse, Lindor isn’t going anywhere with the fact we have a contending team. If we had a crappy team coming back, Lindor would have been gone yesterday but a 93 win team that will likely be better next season makes it really weird even though his value is high, that we would even trade him.

Anyone have an idea how the Outfield may work out? I know it's tough since we may still sign a free agent that can start at one spot but is anyone currently on the roster locked in on a position? Maybe Mercado in CF?

Zimmer - Is he still in the plans moving forward, will his new stance improve his hitting? Can he move to RF?
Daniel Johnson - Will he get a shot as an every day outfielder?
Jake Bauers - ??
Naquin - Obviously can't forget about him when he comes back
Allen and Luplow will likely never be more than 4th or 5th outfielders
Is DJ the only minor league prospect ready to make an impact next season or am i missing someone?

Id rather have Zimmer in CF than Mercado. Dude is so good out there, just hoping his bat comes around somewhat. Not getting my hopes up on that one though.

You missed DeShields

Ka’ai Tom is another prospect who is probably ready. But with how many OFs are in the mix, especially if Reyes is getting reps too, hard to see Tom really being given a shot
