The 2020 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If Luplow earns 500 ABs then I’m assuming we’ll be genuinely impressed with his performance.
Yeah, I mean, if he’s struggling against righties early, I doubt his leash will be long. He’ll need to at least be passable from the get to hold onto a larger role.

Are there other reasonable options as far as everyday outfielders available on the market yet?

Seems we're fairly likely to platoon at one slot for certain with Mercado and Luplow now potentially penciled in for the time being. Then simply ride the hot hand of those remaining: DeShields, Bauers, Allen, (DJ Johnson & Zimmer eventually) and Reyes versus the NL.

why doesn’t Pluto do more sports writing at times since I always felt he thinks about his posts and isn’t so negative like a lot of sports writers in Cleveland

Which is why his writeups are often far superior than those who are simply striving for news headlines and articles to fill up papers and webpages. {And frequently asking players and coaches boneheaded questions, might I add}

Terry is more insightful than most and lets the information digest before offering up his take on situations.

Question for the various Tribe fans: Should Edwin Rios (3B/1B/LF, Left-handed hitter) be a trade target for the Tribe?
He is currently with the Dodgers.

A Brewer fan put together a 3 team trade between LAD/ CLE/ MKE. Most of the trade was a no go IMHO but the guy did raise Rios as a part to CLE. I was intrigued by the numbers I saw so I figured I would ask others for thoughts on him.

I guess it depends on what the entire trade was.

But, with our current situation, I don't think looking for MLB-ready infield prospects is something we're aggressively pursuing. The guy's gonna be 26, with a cup of coffee in the majors last year, and profiles as a 1B/3B... we're pretty set at those positions right now.

His numbers look a lot like Bobby Bradley's, except 2 years older. Power ++ DH.

From my look at the numbers he seemed better in the field than Bobby Bradley.
And he played both corner OF spots in AAA OKC...
Perhaps Edwin Rios is an upgrade over Jake Bauers, especially if Jake can't turn it around in 2020.

Let me be clear- I am not pushing for the Tribe to go get Edwin Rios. He just seemed to be an interesting name in a hypothetical trade someone else put together & I was curious what others thought.

Check out his defensive stats though-- He may be the new Dr. Strangeglove.

Personally his HR total is nice in the minors but he is actually worse defensively than Bradley at 1B and doesn’t show he can really field anywhere. If he is cheap, sure but otherwise I don’t think he would do well for us since we have Reyes and Bradley

Were they building decent retractable roof stadiums in 93-94? Indians should definitely have one.
Nope. The SkyDome opened in '88 and cost half a billion dollars, but the next big retractable wasn't until 2000 with Safeco. It wasn't cost effective to build a retractable roof stadium in Cleveland or Arlington in 1992-1994.

You guys are slacking a little bit, they announced the NRI guys from the organization, true most of them where projected right so I will list them here:

Pitchers:
RHP:
Argenis Angulo
Kyle Dowdy
Cam Hill
Henry Martinez
Jared Robinson
Dalbert Siri
Dominic Leone
Jordan Stephens
LHP
Anthony Gose

Catchers:
Beau Taylor (previously reported)
Giljegiljaw Kungkuan (Li-Jen Chu was his previous name)
Gavin Collins

INF
SS Ernie Clement
Util Mike Freeman
Util Tyler Krieger
1B Wilson Garcia

OF
Ka’ai Tom
Conor Marabell
Mitch Longo

What I don’t like is Kyle Nelson, Robert Broom, Nick Sandlin, Eli Morgan etc are off the list since they are good looking prospects and we only invited one left hander into camp.

Seems like in the next weekish, we should be bringing in a few more players to fill this out more, but this is the current list and none of it is a surprise, just not sure if I agree to leave some of those arms off the invite since they could effect the team at the major league level if we have injuries.

To be clear, the city and county own the Gateway Sports and Entertainment Complex, not the Dolans.

I also do not see any way to 'add a roof' to it, it would need to be a completely new ballpark.

That said, both Jacobs Field and Browns Stadium should have been designed with a roof(or retractable roof), especially Browns Stadium. We will never host a Super Bowl without one, and the money generated from just a single Super Bowl would have paid for the damn roof. As of this year, Super Bowls generate between $300 and $500 million for the host city.
I am not convinced that Cleveland has the infrastructure to host a Super Bowl even with a retractable roof. I feel they would need more hotels to accommodate it.

Interesting to see Pluto say they're pursuing a trade. I don't think there are a ton of hugh-impact guys left in FA, but do think there are some who can help.

Looking at possible trade partners, the Pirates come to mind first with Marte. The Orioles could move Mancini/Givens. The Mets could move one of Nimmo/Smith/Davis. The Reds could deal Winker. Seattle could finally move Haniger. Maybe Ian Happ from the Cubs.

Any other ideas?

I did a random trade for Buttrey from the Angels in the GM thread. To me I feel like they are going to target a complimentary piece to the roster with at least a couple seasons of control.

I don’t feel they are 100% done trying to upgrade the roster but I have a hunch if they do make a trade it won’t be for a name we know all that well. I mean Gonzo for Luplow, Prospects for Mercado etc type of trade I am thinking of, but likely a for a veteran arm with some control or an OF who can platoon with Luplow in a sense. Maybe could see a Kyle Crick from the Pirates or I wonder how much it would cost to bring back former Indians farmhand Chris Archer to the Indians.

Aka my point is they FO of the Indians is still trying to make moves, but they don’t show or share their plans until a deal is made, so if they make a move, it will be for an upgrade somewhere on the roster I feel with a couple seasons of control.

Mancini and Givens would make a ton of sense, and Rosenthal even directly linked the Indians to Givens last summer. The organization’s surplus of impressive talent at the lower levels would particularly appeal to Baltimore considering where they are at in their rebuild.
