The 2021 Cleveland Baseball Organization

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm confident the Little Pitching Factory will do for Karinchak what they did for Bieber, Plesac, Civale, McKenzie, and Maton. I won't be surprised if Stephan gets the same treatment next year once he no longer has to stay on the 25-man to comply with Rule 5.

you're overdoing the Maton "development" - he pitched in Cleveland the way the he pitched his first two seasons San Diego - he was then and is now jag

Not true.

Maton was a much better pitcher once this org got hold of him.

SD-Cleve

ERA...5.02-4.30
FIP....4.45-2.99
WHIP...1.465-1.261
H/9...9.8-7.5
HR/9...1.5-.07
BB/9...3.4-3.8
K/9...9.5-12.7

Maton = baby faced assassin..

And since arriving in Houston Maton has pitched 14 innings allowing 8 earned runs for an ERA of 5.14. He's right back to where he was in San Diego. Like I've been saying, almost nobody plays well after leaving Cleveland. Shaw, Andrew Miller, Clevinger, Kluber, Carrasco, Lindor, Maton, Pestano, Santana, Edwin, Kipnis - nobody. OK, Naquin and Aguilar played pretty well. And Brantley.

I have to say that I'm uncertain of what I would do with Karinchak at this point. There was a time that I would laugh at the idea of dealing him, and it's not his physical abilities that have cast any doubt for me. I question his mental capacity and ability to slow the game down when he's struggling. I think the sticky issue will get resolved when they find a "happy ground", but I don't know if James' neurotic mound demeanor will play in the long haul. Talent is there for sure though.

I wonder how wary teams are of trading with us after seeing a bunch of this play out. If I were an opposing GM, I'd think twice about trading for a pitcher from this organization.

You could make the same case against trading with the Rays.

Bauer and a Cy ???

Or does he not count as far as leaving Cleveland

He will never be consistent without sticky stuff.

His mechanics are such that he needs the added advantage of the sticky to overcome the variability in his mechanics.

Bimbo says he needs a mechanical reset - but if what is meant by that is a reset back to where he was with sticky, before whatever injury Bimbo alludes to as altering his mechanics, then what you will have with that "reset" is a guy who is very inconsistent. If they reset his mechanics to a pattern that he can be more consistent (less posture shift) then he will lose part of the effectiveness of his CB. It is hard to say where he will end up ultimately. But he will never be the top flight reliever that the first half of this season made him appear to be. That is not to say he still couldn't be very good, but it is rolling the dice once you take away the posture shift to get more consistency. Because the pitch it will effect most is his CB.

I don’t think he has the mental makeup to revamp his pitching mechanics sans sticky stuff.
