The 2021 Cleveland Baseball Organization

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Is this a "see he's healthy" showcase?? I know someone posted something like that in cynical jest a few days ago, but now I can't shake it....
I think it also changes his plan heading into the offseason from rehab to refining and getting better as a pitcher.

Even if that were true, it’s an asinine method of “showcasing” him.

The risk factor of him being rusty or clearly not 100% would outweigh any benefits.

The concept of doing that makes zero sense for an organization that puts quite a bit of thought into this development stuff.

having a pitcher return to the mound from a long term injury has psychological benefits... how those benefits are measured isn't easy.. Allowing him to return can only be permitted if the medical staff has deemed him ready to return..

so.. "zero sense" might be understated..

The Dolans aren't paying Shane 670k to just take an 8 month vacation- he's a pitcher, he needs to get his ass back out there and pitch, even if for just a couple games. He hasn't earned the right to rehab for half the season like Kevin Love; he has to wait for his big contract to do that.

Its simple...

If Bieber didn't have 100% medical clearance to pitch, he wouldn't be pitching.

And if he has the medical clearance, he pitches. The standings don't matter.

Also as a competitor, you want to get back on that mound..

I certainly wouldn't think so. This organization, if nothing else, should be trusted with the manner in which it handles its injured players. They've earned that respect IMO. Bringing Bieber back isn't short sighted at all, he's simply ready to return.

TBH, I'd be surprised if Bieber goes 4 innings. This is just a test drive.

The insane thing to do would to have NOT put him back on the mound.

For any pitcher, phsycologically, they do not know they are 100% healthy until they climb that bump in a game, get the adrenaline rush that comes with it, let it rip, and see how they feel the next day. You don't want him going into the off-season with any question in his mind. Having him pitch settles it and readies him for a productive off-season.
