@Steve_424 Roberto Perez also has a team option year btw of 5.5 so you may want to update your original post.

Also C Beau Taylor has been left off the post as well since we have team control over him at the moment. So he needs to be added. RP Hunter Wood was optioned to the minors, so he is no longer on the 40 man roster, while Nolan Jones will be added this off season so you are a bit early but correct in the end lol. Also they see Quantril as a starting going forward.

@MadThinker88 do you have the list/remember who has the list of Rule 5 eligible players? I wouldnt mind seeing it so I can do an off season evaluation.

@petes999 do you know who is Rule 5 Eligible?

My early take from this list...

All three of the free agents will be offered some type of deal to stay with the Indians in some capacity. Leon a minor league invite, Perez a one year veterans minimum style. Hernandez likely a one-two year contract 10-12 mil in total. I dont think Hernandez will resign here. With Perez, I am not sure whats his plans.

Team options years, probably declining Santana and Hand. Both guys will be offered some type of contract in response, but will they take it? Who knows since this market will be strange. Roberto, we will almost 100% guarentee in my mind take his option year. He's too good not too.

Then my guys who may get cut list: RP Cimber, SP Plutko, INF Freeman, OF Zimmer, OF DeShields.

So we should be looking at this offseason with 7 (+/- 1) open spots on the 40 man roster.

High Probability of getting added 3B Nolan Jones, SP Eli Morgan, INF Ernie Clement, OF Ka'ai Tom, RP Anthony Gose, SS Gabriel Arias

Other guys to be considered,
RPs Hunter Wood, Tanner Tully, Dalbert Siri, Jared Robinson, Henry Martinez, Nick Sandlin, Robert Broom
SPs Adam Scott, Joey Cantillo, Luis Oviedo, Kirk McCarty, Cody Morris,
Cs Kungkuan Giljegiljaw
INFs Tyler Freeman, Owen Miller, Jose Fermin
OF Mitch Longo,

(Arias signed his contract in 16, so he is rule 5 elgible in 21. Guys like Tyler Freeman, Owen Miller, Nick Sandlin, Robert Broom, Joey Cantillo, Adam Scott, Cody Morris are not Rule 5 eligible but should be in camp for the Indians. Players like Oviedo, McCarty, Fermin are Rule 5 eligible but haven't played really above a ball, so we may be able to keep them another season without adding them to the 40 man?

It's all about player development now and getting the best possible return for Lindor. They need to find a way to replicate the success they have had in developing young pitchers to the position players.

I personally feel they have went too much potential without adding in any high floor types when it comes to postion players. So i am hoping they add in more of the Owen Miller types in draft/international pool.

One other note to mention (as noted at Indians Prospective): Depending how/ when the minor league realignment goes, there are a number of Tribe farmhands that could be released in advance of 40 man roster decisions. The Tribe list (along with many other club lists) can look radically different with fewer regular spots available...

Are guys like Jared Robinson, Anthony Gose, Kungkuan Giljegiljaw part of the organization still or do they have to add to the 40 man roster/resign them since they are minor league free agents?

To me it looks like Jones, Arias, Clement, Morgan, maybe Tom are probably sure bet adds. What do we do about that list of good potential prospects, Fermin, Oviedo, McCarty, Oscar, Longo, who haven't really play above A ball officially but could be good.

I dearly hope to hear Kungkuan Giljegiljaw (Gong-kwon Gi-li-gi-lao) echoing over the PA in my lifetime.

Well I thought he was going to get more of a chance to earn the backup spot this season. I dont think he could have done any worse than Leon lol

I'm curious to see how this plays out for Nolan Jones. If he's adding "positional flexibility" that tells me the Indians want him in Cleveland but don't want to move Jose off 3B. I wonder why that wasn't part of his process at Lake County this season since it seemed obvious they didn't plan to promote him (or maybe we just didn't hear about it?).

He has a strong arm, so corner outfield could be possible. Or they could move him across the diamond to 1B. But I feel like they need to give him a real shot to make the team out of Spring Training if they're moving on from Lindor and Santana.

My guess is they will test Jones in the OF cause of the production in 20. His floor is Lonnie Chisenhall with more plate discipline (with less injuries) when it comes to playing. So I like his MLB chances

Hedges was set to make $3m this year, pre-COVID adjustment. Unless the Indians decline Roberto's team option, Hedges is a sure fire non-tender or trade to a team that offers literally anything. Indians aren't paying $3m+ for a backup catcher

Initially thought he was still pre-arb when the Indians acquired him

Why would you take Hedges in a deal instead of a prospect if you were just gonna cut him? I have a hunch they are okay with Perez and Hedges as the starting catchers next season.

As insurance for the rest of the season since Perez was dealing with his shoulder injury and still didn't seem right even after he returned from the IL. And the Padres had just acquired 2 catchers. Think he was quite literally a throw in.

I get that he was a throw in, but at the moment, Leon is a free agent, so if we move Hedges, our only catcher is Beau Taylor. I think Kungkuan Giljegiljaw can declare free agency as well if he so wishes.

I mean if we pickup a catcher in a trade maybe I can merit letting Hedges go, but with absolutely no depth at catcher, I just cannot merit letting a legit backup catcher go.
