The 2025 Off-season Thread: What happens next?

Man we get some real weirdos here in May & June...

Windy on WKNR:

-Garland spent weeks evaluating this and saw specialists for this. He saw a specialist in North Carolina and Cleveland to get a lot of opinions on what to do. Sometimes turf toes can heal on their own other times they need surgery. The doctors said do surgery and this injury really effected him. Darius Garland is not getting traded either. The Cavs are obligated to listen to offers for Jarrett Allen but they are not actively looking to make a trade

-The Cavs statement on his injury was confusing because they said 4-5 months but he could be back for training camp

-The Cavs may not be able to re-sign Ty Jerome if he is offered too much money. The Cavs want to re-sign him but it comes down to price. The second apron is not just about spending money but you get the shackles put on you when you enter the second apron. If you pay too much money for a guy like Ty Jerome it takes too much to get out of it. He believes there is a good chance to re-sign Ty Jerome because there are not many bidders who can outbid the Cavs. Jerome will know what he is doing by July 1st or July 2nd

-Emoni Bates has been slowly developing and is playing in an organization that had 64 wins, where is he supposed to play? He is being brought along slowly and has heard good things about his progress. Shaq can take shots at Koby Altman but this is not an area he would do because Altman has found good role players

-The NY Knicks requesting permission for Jason Kidd means they want to hire him and not negotiate. You don't start the process of trying to hire unless you think Kidd wants to come. This happens from time to time as the Suns loved the idea of hiring Chauncey Billups last year. When you fire a successful head coach you better have an action plan of who to hire next. The Cavs knew they were firing JB but knew they wanted Atkinson and did a good job with his hire. The Knicks are talking with the Mavs owner about this and is an ownership level decision

-Right now there is no trade happening for Giannis. He is not on the market and has not asked for a trade. Many teams in the Eastern Conference are seeing the Cavs get eliminated in 2 rounds, Tatum tore his achillies and the Knicks just fired their HC. The Bucks may think they can make a run in the Eastern Conference and make a run. Giannis has not taken the step to ask out and left for Greece without asking for a meeting. If he wanted out, he would ask the owners for a meeting and ask out.

Shaq needs to pipe down..I've watched Bates..Dude likes to take long distant shots that are low percentage.
If you need a shot to come from the concession stands well he's the guy.
He has to develop a mid-range game, around the paint game and throw on weight.
I don't know how long this experiment is going to go on but right now he's not the answer .

It doesn't have to be Suggs. Cavs need to pick Don or Garland and get better fitting pieces.

It basically has to be Don if you're trading someone.

When you really look around the league, there just aren't many great fits for Garland and even fewer teams that would potentially pay a premium for him. He's not a big enough upgrade for most teams to justify a move.

Mitchell is the guy who could potentially bring back multiple players and picks, or a better player at SF or C. I'm not saying they should do it, but he's the guy that could actually bring a real return if they wanted to split them up.

Emoni isn’t it. He never was and never will be. Shaquille is increasingly ignorant in his basketball talk to the point I don’t think he watches any games. I hope we are done with the Bates experiment. There are young players that might become something if given a chance and wasting our time on Emoni means we are not giving ourselves the chance to discover the next Dort, Caruso or Strus.

When I was leaning toward trading DG, I assumed we could get all-star caliber talent in return since he has been an all-star. It now looks to me that his value isn’t that high around the league and finding a way to improve the team through trading DG is pretty unlikely.

I think what might be the biggest failure of this FO up to this point is almost totally ignoring the building and development of front court depth. Overall there’s been no real effort put into developing bigs. We should have at least one developmental big in the G-League every single season.

I think for a team where the Cavs are at this point in time, it’s better to focus on the 3&4 year college players who are high BBIQ guys. They might not have the boom potential, but they also might just be needing a better strength and conditioning program and a more limited role to be successful in the NBA.

If Mobley is considered the franchise guy, there needs to be a greater focus on developing bench pieces that compliment Mobley.

didn’t those guys (Brobley, Diakate, Thor) just kind of suck?

Tomlin might be fun

Emoni sucks. Shaq is a moron and was probably told by his equally as stupid son about how good bates was in high school and just ran with it. Shaq doesn’t want nba games let alone g league games. He doesn’t know shit. And doesn’t he own part of the kings? If he thought bates was good have them sign him.

The Cavs were blessed to be on the right side of garbage time a lot this year. Thor looked great, but he’s gone now. Tyson has some great moments, but really disappeared at times. Emoni was a non-factor - especially on defense.

Tomlin was the guy though. Kid looked very raw, but also played like his life depended on it. If I was a betting man, that would be the guy I’d put my chips on. Not many people have the motor that kid does.

I liked the idea of Thor.

Tomlin, who went to the same community college as like my whole family, strikes me as a guy I’d want to throw usage at as much as possible, from summer league to preseason to as a primary focus of a second unit. Great motor, awesome size, super fluid
