Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Beckham was 1000% open. With that said, that's a risky throw to take on 4th and 4. With the way Baker is playing right now, I don't have much confidence in him placing that ball where it needs to be....But OBJ is the type of player who can make something out of a less than perfectly placed ball...

what in the fresh hell? look at hte god damn picture, no OBJ is not open. He eventually becomes open, the issue is Baker is already releasing/has released the ball when that happens. Meaning who gives a shit. Baker looked over OBJ wasnt open so he went else where. Thats the end of the conversation.

I believe someone responded to one of my posts about the subject; OBJ was only running that route as a distraction and trying to clear the field.

You don’t think Baker should be accounting for his most talented wide receiver getting open a few seconds later? That’s literally why you have him. It’s a poor decision, and one made even worse considering there was a lot more traffic Landry’s way.

Play starts at 9:07

Beckham has Harris dead to rights at this very moment and Baker is just finishing his drop back. Harris bit on OBJ's inside move and its left him flat footed on off balance. Throw the ball to the pylon and Beckham scores untouched. Or hit Landry who is about be alone in the middle of the field

This is correct.

The defender is facing the wrong way and off-balanced. He is beat.

No way in hell he is able to catch up with OBJ.

Landry also getting open .5 seconds later.

Baker flat out missed both of them. Or even maybe Hilliard fight his way to the line.

And like I said earlier... Hilliard? Really?? Chubb HAS to be in there. Has to be.

Also yes.

Chubb is an every-down back. So he should be in there. Every down.

What moron decides the best playmaker on the team shouldn't be on the field in crucial moments?

"Cavs down two with five seconds left, their best play is to leave LeBron off the floor. In comes Jiri Welsch!"

Just to make sure we are clear you are saying at this frame OBJ has the CB beat, right?

Yeah man. look how beat the CB is..... still with OBJ a second later as baker is starting his windup

Once again, It doesnt matter. Because baker was NEVER going to make this throw, because its stupid throw to make on 4th and 4. OBJ is being covered by a very good corner, and the only way to get it to OBJ is a perfect throw (regardless of the rest of what was going on). Baker looked over to make sure the CB hadnt randomly slipped, but the play was always going to one of the guys over the middle of the field, and i guess maybe Hilliard if he had been uncovered.

A poster on here even said that during the press conference after the game it was said that OBJ was running that route to clear things out, and wasnt the prime target. You can even see it here. OBJ is clearing out that side of the field in hopes that either Landry breaks free, or Hilliard goes uncovered. Baker didnt "miss" OBJ because he wasnt going there.

Baker missed Landry, right at that 2nd frame. Baker held the ball slightly too long and should have hit Landry between the hashmarks. Instead that let the Secondary recover and make the play

Unfortunately Baker is already off of OBJ and with the state of our Offensive line, rightfully so. He can not afford to be waiting for that streak route to develop

Clearly he is on his second option the TE, who I think he could’ve hit there and then flips to Landry next.

This is so disingenuous.

Desperately trying to convince himself.

I don't know why you're picking this hill to die on but, yeah, OBJ clearly had his man beat. I saw it, everyone saw it.

Here, OBJ has him turned.

Half a second later and OBJ clearly has a step, is out front on the guy and is off to the races.

Don't know why you don't think that isn't exactly what you want to see as a QB: Your best WR out in front of single coverage.

That he would make such throw on 4th and 4 is debatable but to say OBJ didn't have his man beat is factually incorrect.

Studied those 2 pics for a good bit. If Landry sits on his route, golden as well.

But, what's really glaring? Both tackles aren't pushing the edge rushers out far enough. I think Baker's internal clock is okay, just he feels the pressure sooner than should be anticipated and causing him to panic into the wrong throw. I hate saying it, but we need to secure the best LT available this off-season in the draft. Whether tank here on out or trade future firsts to move up. And find the best RT available as well.

Can't completely blame Freddie and coaches for this as he doesn't sign the players. But, he deserves all the blame on not adjusting our scheme to hide their deficiencies.......something that we all thought he did well with last 8 games of a year ago

Well Blatt did try to make LeBron throw the ball in with 2 seconds left one time... Then he said no, called for the ball, and won the game. LOL

Dude, yes, 100% OBJ has him beat right now. Harris' hips are facing the wrong direction and he's slightly unbalanced. OBJ, on the other hand, just came out of his inside feign move and is accelerating straight down the sideline.

He's not "throw it at the 25 yard line open", but if that ball is thrown at the pylon, Beckham is going to come down with it

Again though, it's a risky ball to throw IMO when you only need 4 yards

OBJ has an uniterrupted streak route right there. You arent throwing it to where he is now, but where he is going to be. The CB is already turning without getting OBJ off his route. Its a lock for a TD. Unless the safety is cheating over to that side of the field, which we cant see in that pick.
