Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The past 3 games have restored my faith in Baker's longevity and future as our FQB. I think he's going to take off down the stretch here but may need to do so in spite of unimaginative playcalling in the red zone.

Thursday is a true test against a rising defense.

I mean, it honestly should've never been in doubt. He had a bad stretch of games - big deal. I'm not directing this at you, but generally speaking our fanbase has been ridiculously fickle this year. Baker had a historic rookie year and came into this year with:

-Rookie HC that has been HORRIBLE in all aspects of the game
-Meh offensive line while, not being HORRIBLE, haven't been great either
-Tons of penalties that killed drives
-Brand-new and shiny top WR weapon with no built chemistry yet, who will make it known he wants targets
-somewhat different offensive scheme that tries to emphasize more deep, long-developing air raid concepts
-EXTREMELY difficult schedule to start the season (ranked defenses in YPG allowed: BUF-3rd, NE-2nd, SF-1st, among tough defenses like DEN, NYJ, LAR, and respectable defenses in BAL and TEN).

All of that ^^^ while he is just a 2nd year QB with defenses game-planning from last year's film.

I. Am. Not. Absolving. Baker. Of. Any. Blame. He clearly could have done better and needs to continue to play well. But JFC the fact that people were already giving up on him was asinine. And I bet those same people will start to hail him as the next Tom Brady if he wins another game or two in a row. Pathetic - but can't expect more from bandwagons and fair-weathers.

I heard Peyton Manning for GM and Haslam moves the team to Knoxville.

Anyone who willingly wants to hire Jim Harbaugh in the year of our lord 2019, they cannot be trusted.

Well I mean his 49ers record speaks for itself.

He’s an excellent football coach, much like his brother.

3 NFC Championship games and 1 Super Bowl appearance with Colin Kaepernick as his QB in a 4 year stint. Very innovative offense as well.

NFL track record speaks for itself.

Facing a near revolt in the locker room and an overall abhorrent coaching philosophy, I couldn't think of a more Brownsian selection to be the next head coach.

The lack of innovation and fervent dedication to "old school" football alone has me ready to line up in I-formation and run Dave left/right for three years.

What a remarkably bad choice to lead an offense full of potential. Just astonishingly bad.

But his offenses at Michigan have been way behind the curve in the college game where we see much more creativity and innovation. He's zigging back in time in the wrong direction while the rest of the country zags. I have little confidence that after 5 years of uninspiring offensive gameplanning at Michigan that he would hit the ground running in the NFL.

Isn’t this the Baker Mayfield thread?

Anyway Baker called out the fans AGAIN yesterday, adding on to his crowd noise comment postgame Sunday. I usually defend Mayfield for his outspokenness, but there’s no denying he comes off like a tool lecturing the fanbase about when to cheer and when to be quiet, like they don’t already fucking know that.

Not sure how many games you go to but the offense has to signal to the fans to shut up at least twice a game. They used to put up something on the video board but it appears they gave up. Probably the same jabronis that make everyone stand the whole game.

That being said knowing Baker he probably went about this the wrong way

He only broached the subject because Mary Kay brought it up to stir more drama and controversy.

Not only that, she framed the question to try and bait him into something even worse. “Or were you referencing the large number of Bills fans in the stadium?”

Mary Kay is pure trash. Offers no insight, no news, and drives for drama.

Oh, Mary Kay. Nevermind. I thought you were talking about Tony Grossi and his agenda. Carry on.
