Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Jarvis' leaves a little room for error IMO, not sure where that one lied but I'd like to go back and look again.

I don't know of any route in which OBJ is in position to catch that ball. Or the fade he subsequently threw towards the end.

Just does not seem at all capable of settling in or finding rhythm,

We may be talking about different plays. It was a third down in the late third or fourth, I think. OBJ ran a 12 yd out and was wide open if Baker puts it on him. Baker threw the pass like he was going to go out and up.

No, definitely on the same page.

I don't know that Baker's ball was catchable for any route that I'm aware of.

The out was the right route, if it were an option route. Short of OBJ mishearing a play call or audible at the line that I'm not aware of, even though the pass itself didn't really seem like it would be catchable.

While he's certainly improved from the beginning of the season, and has had some good (even great) moments, Baker overall has been playing like a game manager. He's not making big mistakes anymore. Doing just enough to get wins over average teams.

It's just not what is expected. But I suppose the improvement is encouraging, even if its been painfully slow.

He needs to be better if this team wants to go where it wants to go.

You may be right. I only saw it once but looked in real-time like OBJ would have made the catch had he run the out. I don't have access to any replays so I'll defer when you have a chance to look at it again.

He needs a better coach if you want that to happen.

I think that play probably falls on baker, and the only reason I leave it open is that it’s clear OBJ and Baker Aren’t clicking. Way too often we see OBJ give up, drop a ball or just be in the wrong place. Which seems he really isn’t in the game. Not sure why this time is an exception

I mean classic example on the deep pass to OBJ in the 2nd half, OBJ just completely gave up on it and had he actually tried probably could have come close to catching it, if not actually catching it.

Mayfield is going to have a target on his back when they play in Pittsburgh,,OBJ as well...it could get really ugly.

You're kidding yourself if you think the refs aren't going to be on high alert that entire game. First time someone from either team tries some shit, there will be consequences.

Thought pressure forced the early throw there and OBJ never saw it.

But I’d have to go back and see.

According to Baldinger Mayfield played pretty damn well. He must have much lower standards than our resident forum QB experts.

...on the first drive, I’d agree.

He made enough plays to win. But if you’d like to classify that as a good performance, I’d take a long look at what you think “good” means.

Because the offense didn’t really do anything beyond the two early scoring drives.

I think you're arguing in bad faith here.

That 2nd half game plan was not conducive to having a great offensive 2nd half. It was about sitting on the ball and safe throws.

He was 5/12 throwing in the second half.
