Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It was reported that Baker is friends with Rudolph. I now think less of Baker because of this. Maybe they aren’t really friends. They can’t be. Mason sucks.

He definitely has always been good friends with Mason. Bedlam was always fun because they wanted to one up each other.

Unfortunately for Randolph, I don't see Baker's domination of their "rivalry" ending any time soon.

Was interesting to read in the Myles thread that B. Mason Rudolph Sr. is from northeast Ohio - in fact, after googling, Chagrin Falls '83 grad, then UNC, then stayed in the Carolinas after that.

Footballoutsiders has Baker 9th among all QBs, despite his so-so 2nd half.

Baker since the Bye:

63% Completion, 224.5 Yards Per Game, 6 TDs, 1 INT, 91.2 QB Rating.

Those are against the 1st (NE), 3rd (Pitt), 6th (DEN), and 13th (BUF) best defensive teams in the NFL according to DVOA. The remaining games against DVOA Defenses:

Miami- 31st
Pitt- 3rd
Bengals 2x- 32nd
Arizona- 28th
Baltimore- 14th

He's been more than good enough to win. He hasn't looked like an unstoppable force akin to last season, but given where he was before the bye, it's been a massive improvement.

The sky is no longer falling when it comes to Mayfield, but I still want to see him brighten it up quite a bit against these bad teams.

I don't really see why this is so contentious here. His last four weeks are a good step, you folks don't have to demand apologies every time Mayfield doesn't go out there and suck.
Because you generally seem to dwell on the negative and gloss over or completely ignore the positive. It's just what you do and I think most people other than yourself would say something to the same effect about your posting tendencies. It gets old week after week. Like it or not Baker is a net positive and he's very likely to only get better as each season progresses.

Perhaps you’re excited by the consistency of the offense.

If so, I’d suggest you elevate that standard.

Lord knows Baker and Freddie both want more, because I do think it’s within them.

He's putting an awful lot of pressure on himself.

This team has zero margin of error at this point in time. I appreciate the confidence in his abilities but it wouldn't hurt to not say stuff like this ALL the time. Show me before we talk about being "made for the moment."

This isn't also just being clutch in the clutch moments. This is a consistent, baseline performance and expectation of greatness. I expect the Browns to win by multiple touchdowns to the Dolphins to get us to the make or break point that is @ Pittsburgh. If they struggle with a team that is injury ridden, not talented and flat out tanking, then questions will once again pop up about Baker and Freddie in my mind.

It’s just another RCF opinion and deserves no more weighting than any other. Just noise. And designed to get a reaction.

Did you just shoot yourself in the foot for whenever you give an opinion ?

I'm not close to being "excited" by the consistency of the offense. Baker and the offense and frankly just about every aspect of this team all have plenty of room for improvement. I just don't expect it all to happen instantly. My opinion is that when this many of the players change, the system changes, and this many of the players are still in the first few years of their careers, it takes some time for things to fall into place. I put a lot of this on Kitchens but I'm even willing to give him some time to learn and adjust to a position he's never held before.

Would it be great if it all happened sooner, of course. But it hasn't, and we are where we are. As far as I'm concerned Baker has taken some steps back and some steps forward, and it will all contribute to the player he becomes moving forward. And in my opinion he's still on a trajectory to be very good.

I think you and some others are too hard on him. I wonder if you're such a perfect person yourself IRL, that you can just throw shade in every direction as often as you do?

I don’t expect perfection of myself or those who work for/with me, but I do think being critical of talent is how you build talent.

The assets on this offense are incredibly talented, but their production is suspect at best.

When I see greatness like I do with great teams, I’ll start being more positive.
