Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Since 1999, vs. the Browns, I believe the Ravens are 30-10 and the Steelers are 34-5-1

It's kind of hard to have that same hate in your heart when you have dominated a team year-in-year-out for nearly 20 years

You'd think so but it's not necessarily true. Patriots have dominated the Bills for awhile yet many Pats fans have a strong hatred towards the Bills.

Seriously, take a peek inside Twitter/Reddit and you'll see that Ravens fans (more than any other team in our division) hate us. Or any other online platform.

Edit: if we dominate the Steelers for the next decade I'd still hate them big time. Maybe geographic location feeds into it since we see so many Steelers fans around.

I have never wanted to be and I will never want to be America’s team

I don’t want bandwagon fans that have never been to Cleveland or Ohio who spent the last entirety of their lives talking about how horrible Ohio is to live in and how the browns are the mistake by the lake to now grab orange Pom poms

They can go fuck themselves. I want the people that watched Greg Little dropping balls after being drafted in the second fucking round. I want the people who debated the Vince Mayle pick only to see him cut before he ever played a game for the browns

I want the people who remember that fat walrus saying not to come to him for playoff tickets because he drafted Brandon fucking Weeden and Trent Richardson. I want the people who remember Mike Pettine’s spa and resort masquerading as a training camp. The people that watched Oniel Cousins start on this line. The people that remember that they can’t look at fatass Cam Erving’s fingernails

Those are the diehards who i want on board. And honestly casual fans are fine too. But not the people who slam a state they’ve never been to because they parrot everything they’ve ever heard and can’t think for themselves.

Fuck them. This isn’t America’s team. This is Cleveland’s team and I hope that never changes

The Rolodex of names & shitty experiences you could rattle off about the 21st century Browns is literally endless. You picked quite a few fantastic ones & got my mind flipping through the others. Now that is a thread I'd be interested in reading...

I think that is rapidly changing. We're obviously not there yet as we haven't had a winning season since 2007. But the seeds have been planted.

You mention speaking to a few Ravens and Steelers fans but say no one hates the Browns? You've gotta be living in a bubble.

I'm sorry my office only has 40 people and I couldn't ask the entirety of the NFL fan base.
But no one hates the browns, because they have been irrelevant for 20 years.

Give me a reason for someone to hate the browns. No fan of an NFL team that is under 30 is going to give shit about them and the only real rivalry the browns have leftover is the Steelers and most Steeler fans don't care anymore. Is it a rivalry, of course. But it's like a brotherly rivalry in which one brother is 5 years older.

So give me a reason? Because of big mouth quarter back... give me a break.

Baker is making amends for yet another out-of-context quote, and while the talking idiots with their shows will make hay, that no one really cares about, he and Jones will probably grab a beer (if Jones' mom lets him) and laugh about it.

As for being hated, no, no one has had cause to hate the Browns except maybe Tim Couch. And even he is over it.

But, in the very near future, there will be lots of people who hate the Browns. Namely jackasses that live in PA and MD.

God, he looks young.

He looks like he should be leading a rush week get-together rather than being the soon to be starting QB of a NFL team.

"Brother Daniel, what can Sigma Chi do for me?"

Not seeing the purpose of giving you reasons, dude. I'm literally reading posts on Reddit, Twitter, and multiple Ravens/Steelers forums. Dozens, hundreds, whatever. You want me to start posting quotes or something? It's as simple as a few clicks to find out for yourself lol.

I don't think they cared before but I think you're wrong about them not caring now. Many of them are worried and it shows.

So you made an outrageous claim with nothing to back it up awesome welcome to my ignore list

The night the OBJ trade was announced I was looking to indulge in some schadenfreude and lurked amongst their Reddit threads and SBNation pages.

The smart ones knew they were in trouble. The Ravens fans especially considering their Ratbirds nearly missed the playoffs because of the Browns.

They see the way the wind is blowing.

Maybe it's just my perspective because I think most social media is a cesspool- especially Twitter- but I think there's a tendency to overrate just how reflective social media is of actual public opinion. I just doubt there's this widespread backlash against the Browns anywhere outside of social media and certain media types.

And of course Steelers and Ravens fans are going to dislike us. We were two free wins a year for them, and those days are ending. Now they have to get nervous and apprehensive for us. That can't be fun for them.

Pretty sure people will root for the Browns in the playoffs/superbowl. Especially if they're playing any LA team or team with a history of championships.

Besides, they don't matter. That feeling of the Browns winning a superbowl is what it's all about. The football fans from other teams are just a captive audience :chuckle:

I hope that the "becoming the new Patriots" OBJ goal involves us dominating our division to the same degree, and our "real" rivals being out west with the Chiefs, the same way Manning v. Brady was the "real" big rivalry.

Looks like we may be getting the Brady vs. Eli Manning sequel, with the games every few years, with the Daniel Jones callout; hopefully our two Super Bowls against the GMen turn out a little better.

I think the Ratbirds' saltiness also stems from "muh history," as if stealing our team wasn't good enough for them, even if they didn't also get to keep the Colts history.
