The Bleachers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No sign of league play any time soon so I started my own. 5 teams, found a field that has lights we could unlock, got an umpire. Collected fees, made a bit of money and run it every Thursday.

It's going well, gonna run another couple days throughout the week

Jerseys are going really well. Designs getting better, charging a bit more, social media presence growing precipitously.. Got a player at Stanford University in a jersey tonight and on the gram, hope it gets some attention

Our work is showing up in some local comptetitors stuff. Taking our captions and look influenced by our designs

Omar had the quickest release that I have seen, which made up for an average arm.

But even when he had the time, he backhanded, instead of getting into proper condition. He was so good, his hands were so quick and sure, that it didn't matter...to him.

In some ways, Omar was fundamentally unsound.

Personally, I had a heck of a time convincing my better fielding youth players not to do things Omar's way...and a couple Dads, too.

The same thing with young batters, trying to be Jim Thome.

I eventually told my kids to watch Omar swing a bat and Thome field. Although Thome was not a good fielder, it was more about lack of ability than lack of fundamentals, while Omar was fundamentally sound with a bat.
Yes, resurrecting an old thread because it doesn't fit anywhere, and certainly doesn't belong in the minor league thread.

@CATS44 I totally used to do this--the "bat like Thome" specifically. I would switch hit and emulate either Griffey or Thome when batting lefty.

But that wasn't the worst. The worst mid-90's era emulation... was pitching. Can you guess it?

Yeah, I totally used to do the Hideo Nomo wind-up :chuckle:

Well, better to emulate Thome than Hargrove.....

Personally, I went with the Manny Ramirez stance and the David Cone delivery.

Damn -- well done!

So how's the talent on the Co-ed team?
Basically if the guys don't hit 750 I don't take them, and they're best glove available at position. No one drops balls everyone is remarkably fast, they've all got arms and are consistent 750. My pitcher plays majors and isn't rated in San Diego but he's absolutely fucking filthy. Changes tempo speeds has a lot of movement, is top notch fielder and hits 750 and is a great teammate. I have a Stanford guy, the guy I roll with at short has the fastest and smoothest hands you've ever seen in your life, played 30 years of racquetball and high level softball. Everyone's hits line drives every time. They're all fast enough to be able to cover the entire of with 3 of them so I can play 5 man if I want comfortably.

I have two lines of girls - one set comes as a package deal, they're rated B in other organizations but still qualify to play E in the ones I play in (when you get on a team that wins enough tournaments consistently for thr organizers to feel pressure to move you into the next division of talent and get you out of yours, they bump you from e to d, then d to c, c to b)

Girls hit over 500 and outperform most tournament level guys at their positions. They stay down on sharp hit balls to left side of infield and throw fire on target. My first base played tex am, 6 foot 4. Second base is solid defense and played juco. Outfielder played Kentucky.

I like having all lady infield because guys are just going to throw harder and cover a lot more distance in the outfield. And miss a ball in infield its probably just a bag, miss in of and it's 2 or 3.

My lady B line is all girl infield and if they're on another team I roll with the standard lady at 2, 1, c, rf, lcf

I scout lkke an absolute motherfucker, I am on fb pages thay routinely land me top quality people - new one once a week, and if I need a sub they provide me with an outstanding player every time. My friends tag me on those pages if people are looking for people and I look for mutual friends that I know will give me accurate assessments. I also play 7 days a a week in a handful of different leagues and am starting to umpire Friday nights to help with that. Moving from more recreational leagues down in SD proper to the leagues up north - the fields are basically pro quality and the residents of the towns grew up on softball and families were met and started and reared at sportsplexes

I haven’t played softball in ages. Is it too late to come back at the ripe age of 29?

Im still in good shape.
