The Bleachers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@David, did you play baseball in high school, and is that is common for the guys in your leagues?

I didn't make my high school team freshman year and stopped playing. Was really really good up until then.

Started playing pickup games a year ago and started taking it more seriously in March or so. Not really typical progression

My dad was always my coach growing up which was great, love the guy, but I never learned basically anything about playing the game. Don't exactly have a coach now and could have really used one for a few years of highschool. Now I pretty much have to figure out things I'm doing wrong on my own and research it for myself

For somebody who grew up loving baseball, I sure as hell sucked at it when I was a kid.

I hit .150 my last year of little league and led the team in hit by pitches. The one time they let me pitch, I beaned the first three guys in the game and then walked the fourth guy on four pitches.

I could sure steal some bases though. Whenever I would walk, get beaned, or by some grace of God, actually got a hit, I was always stealing second and third.

Most improved player twice in a row Bryan Little League. Batted .369 with a ton of steals and a lot more home runs than I deserved my last year.

They kept recording my singles or doubles plus 2-3 errors that resulted from me running through stop signs and bluffing the fielders until I made it home as home runs. Nobody ever said anything. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In retrospect, they should have blasted Yakkity Sax from the PA system every time I got a hit.

Also, I singlehandledly lost my team a game by dancing off of second when the shortstop still had the ball in his glove after an out. I literally ran into him.

My dad was a good dude (RIP) but he took baseball over-seriously and we had a pretty shitty post-game conversation about that in the car/restaurant/house for the next 3-4 hours.

Fuck man, first night of Thursday league. Won 28-10 and we didn't get last at bat and we made errors we'll never make again. And 2 tourney level girls were out.

It's my little family, half the players from the tourbement. Went out for Korean BBQ before the game and just had a blast. We're together Tues, weds, Thurs, picked up Friday yesterday, and tournament once a month. Group text all day. Everyone is so much fun.

The park I go to in Leonia NJ where there are lots of sports going on:

- a lot of chicks jogging
- tons of guys playing tennis (courts are jammed after work and there are a LOT of them)
- lots of old farts walking (like me)
- kayak classes (park is on the water if you like paddling through the algae in the Meadowlands)
- a cricket game out in between all the baseball fields
- never seen anyone playing or practicing baseball or softball

Handful of people can't make this tournament. We replaced 4 solid people with college players and c rated players (which means they get on teams Tha make it to Vegas tournaments and win).

Having major issues with a guy in the team. He asked the group chat if someone could sub at 8am. I said yes. He confirmed. I get to the game and he's found someone else. Not only did he do that which is awful taste, but he didn't even tell me. He also didn't even put me in the lineup yesterday, and when I reminded him, he told me jot to hit a homerun with the bases loaded. Which makes no sense. He's also the reason we didn't have a girl for the first two games of the tournament.

I do not like him as a person, he's a problem. The issue is he knows all of these people and could maybe persuade them to do tournaments with him instead. I just wanna get rid of him

Fuck him up.

Long story. Feels so good I'm manic. Cathartic.

The girl that I liked and the pitcher who she chose over me hid a tournament from us. Another manager basically organized the whole thing, told the pitcher, and then told the organizer of Southern San Diego to promote it. There is literally no way anyone could have known abut this before me, and the manager who set it up ND the players she got to ask before everyone else could. And all of these players knew it. The organizer even told me it was weird my pitcher got stolen bc he didn't even make a flyer for it yet.

So, after they found out about this tournament and kept it secret, I found us one that is with competition we just aren't at because we didn't have one this month. And it's for charity and I committed. And I also planned a trip around all of this.

Found out Tuesday about this tournament. It's during the dates of my trip and no one wants to do it bc we have the other one we committed to. I asked everyone if they're in and Erin tells me she and the pitcher already have a team and they asked first and we hadn't said anything about it (which makes me look bad) . I tell them they could have obviously told us about it and asked if we were doing it. But they didn't, they kept it secret. "they asked first" is what people say when they choose someone else and look for a cop out excuse.

Decided to get my balls back. Every fucking time we communicate since I met her she's been up to some shit and it's been a detriment to me. Including just showing up day of a tournament cuddling with the pitcher without giving me any type of heads up that this was the guy she said no to me for.

I ask in the group chat if we can count on them to be part of the team and be loyal in the future? "what we can't play with other teams?"

You absolutely can but it's obviously weird you knew about a tournament and didn't tell your team about it. Now we're stuck in one we'll get skunked at. Do whatever you want but it comes at a detriment to an entire team that counts on you. We.. Only have one pitcher so obviously we can't play in this one. I'm sure you guys know that.

I sleep on it. Tell her today we're trying out a new pitcher instead of her bf and she doesn't have to come if she doesn't want to. She says it's not that I don't want to play with you guys I just want to play with other people too.

No bitch you misunderstood. I'm telling you you don't have to come. It isn't abiut what yiu want at this point. "there is no reason why you shouldn't have told us about this tournament and it's rubbed half the team the wrong way."

She gives excuses and they all suck and are non sequiturs at very best. She's selling hard that she wants to commit to the team and never said for sure she would play for someone else. I tell her we can't build a core around people who hide tournaments from the team, that's an indicator of comittiment level and predictor of future behavior.ryan can't play this one bc I need to find his replacement should "someone ask first" again and we all know you're going to follow him around. So we can't count on him which means we can't count on you. Replacements aren't going to just sit around waiting to see if you want to play with us, they want to commit to a Tema that wants them. So you're right you can do absolutely whatever you want but there should have been an idea of how this effects everything.

We played tonight. She thinks the entire team hates her. I didn't make eye contact. I played out of my mind and everyone liked me better than her. She removed herself from the tournament update chat. Which makes her look bad. I told her she didn't have to show up if she didn't want to and she removed herself which confirms the idea that she's bailing bc the pitcher is flakey and she'll follow him.

I'm so manic right now I can't sleep. What an awesome day.

Here's a shitty swing.
