The Brian Hoyer thread...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Keys just can't eat his humble pie on this one...

No reason to. On the season, Hoyer performed like I thought he would and said he would... playoffs aside. McCown and Manziel actually performed WORSE than I thought they would this season, and as usual wouldn't know a playoff game from a sideline grab-ass session with Timo Mozgov.

I just keep getting tagged for responses when Hoyer has an off game. My insight is that important, I guess.

McCown was worse than you thought?

He just turned in his second best season as a pro at age 36. When he actually played, he surprisingly played at a fairly high level.

He surpassed my expectations.

As for Manziel...he was pretty much what I expected. Slightly below average.

He had three very good weeks in a row that had my opinion on his signing changed, temporarily. You can't take weeks 3, 4, and 5 away from him... eventhough his week 3 pick to Woodson in the red zone was ugly and cost the game.

What did he do the rest of the season? His turnovers killed the team against Denver and St Louis the following weeks. Week one was his helicopter fumble. Arizona was a garbage time special.

I'm willing to keep him as a mentor to Goff because we already paid him.

Dude, honestly... you have got to be trolling...

Way too long, and I read as little as possible. Why didn't anyone post in this thread when Hoyer had his 7 good weeks?

I did. Honest to god, his accuracy concerned me after Game 3 last year.

Hoyer completed 60.7% of his passes this season. Again, its a shame we aren't discussing his season on the whole. He was solid, despite never having a running game. That Houston playoff game was certainly brutal, I never disagreed with that.

I wonder if it has anything to do with posting stuff like this in other threads:

Context.

I just generally fail to see why our situation would really have been improved with Hoyer at the helm this year instead of McCown. So what? We win five or six games instead of three and once again miss out on a top draft pick and a shot at a real QB starter? We've been seeing that story for fifteen years now, and I'm ready for it to fucking change. At least Manziel's suckage put us in position to draft a real QB. Hoyer's mediocrity would have put us just out of that range.

Hoyer is good enough to win you some games, sure, especially if, you know, you've got the third best defense in the NFL and one of the best defensive players of all time on your roster. But as we saw this weekend, Hoyer's not winning you playoff games, and if your QB isn't capable of doing that, you should be searching for one who can.

I just generally don't think we should become enamored with mediocrity just because it's better than what we've had in the past.

Just looking at his overall production, it was much better than I had anticipated, given his history in the league and his lack of weapons around him. I think he'll be a great mentor for Goff, I'm excited about that, truthfully. Seems like a genuinely nice guy and good teammate. (Not taking shots at Hoyer here).

Honestly, I'm not sure what you mean here. Again, looking at the overall production, Manziel really wasn't that bad when he was on the field. That doesn't mean I want him around anymore, because I don't. I never wanted him in the first place. But I guess that's why I said he met my expectations this year, because I never really expected anything from him. I'm honestly shocked to hear that you did. And even more shocked that you think I'm trolling...

But as far as strictly on the field performance, I think Manziel has proved he at least can play in the league as a backup.

His off the field shenanigans makes him not even remotely close to worth it, though.

Pretty much sums it up. He's got enough talent to at least be a back-up, but he's such a fuck up that he'll probably be out of the league in three years.

Hoyer was terrible, no menacing words, but Houston overall isn't a very good team. Take away Hopkins, their lone playmaker, not a real surprise it got ugly fast.

I think too many are sleeping on the Chiefs. I got them going to the SB. That defense is lights out.

Although Alex Smith will need to play better if he's going to beat Brady at Foxborough.

Context of what? Doing victory laps over Manziel fans?
At least you can write coherent thoughts, but you and @@Tornicade need to get off your respective hills. Neither of those guys were the answer for this team.

Incoherent? It was embedded within five pages of Manziel mockery that you yourself participated in. This is what you are left with here? My goodness...

Yep.

Simply put: Browns fans want to believe Hoyer was terrible in the 2015 season badly, but the truth of the matter is that he is going to be a middling NFL starter for a few more years. Did he have bad games this season? Absolutely, he had three of them in fact. The same can be said of pretty much every NFL starter this season, aside from Tom Brady, Russell Wilson, or Cam Newton.

Don't let facts get in the way, fellas. I'm not denying he had a terrible playoff game. If you watched the national media cover the Texans this year, they will tell you Hoyer was inconsistent, but he was a solid starter who doesn't get the credit he deserved. But, that isn't good enough for many Browns fans. So many of them are uncomfortable with ex-Browns having any form of success.

But I'll tell you this... Browns fans look like awful people. Did a coach choose another franchise this week? Get ready for Twitter to light them up with anything negative a Browns fan can find. Did a player go to another team after playing for the Browns? Fuck them, says my Facebook wall, they are terrible players and terrible people. Ex-Browns should play in Canada.

I would have hoped the fan base is painted in a better light, but sadly, this is the message you send. Awful.

IMO the aspect of Hoyer's performance with CLE validated by his 2015 HOU playoff performance was his propensity to wilt under pressure conditions.

The pressure on Hoyer in CLE was most directly related to performing in a manner which would lead the Browns to 'pay the man"; thereby setting his family up big-time and as a by-product lead his hometown team to the playoff berth a hungry fan base so desparetly desired.

It was all there for him, yet he clearly collapsed as the pressure grew. I believe Ray Farmer suspected this as well when he refused to anoint Hoyer in his mid-season press conference; he said we have to wait and see before Hoyer is awarded a starting QB level contract, which of course many were advocating at 7-4. One of the few things he was right about.

For me, his 2015 playoff performance was sadly predictable. Choker.

Should RCF bring this back for Cribbs' next contract?

And if so, should everyone get together to do this again?

What is your thesis here... validation that Farmer makes great roster decisions? Building around Manziel was the right move because Hoyer lost his playoff shot? You hope that anyone who leaves a Cleveland franchise fails, and that is how you gain pleasure as a sports fan?

I'm happy with Haslam's decision to clean house this past month. I'm optimistic about the new front office. I'm happy he is openly talking about QB with the overall #2 pick. These things keep me from giving up on the franchise entirely. Cheering for former Browns players to fail in new roles elsewhere doesn't.
