Freddie is a good dude who was in WAY over his head. Not really his fault.

He had to coach a team with a young QB, depleted offensive line, a locker room peppered with certified malcontents, and a freshly imported mega personality from NYC. It was bound to be rough. The lack of organization, structure and system sure put the capital letters in "WAY" over his head. But lots of other aspect screamed "not head coach material", like the "no game plan after the first drive" and the inability to instill discipline in his players.

The t shirt incident and the team's complete lack of discipline are two other "not head coach material" examples that spring to mind. The team was an absolute trainwreck, but I have much more animosity towards Hue for reasons other posters have outlined.

Mayfield didn’t call Freddie Kitchens fake like he did Hue Jackson when Jackson was fired and joined the Bengals. No, the postgame meeting with Kitchens was friendly and light. While it was the first time he saw Freddie since the firing, Mayfield has stayed in contact with him.
“I appreciate Freddie,” Mayfield said. “I continue to talk to him every once in a while. He’s lost some weight. He looks good. Proud of him.”

Freddie is a fun guy but not a head coach. Hue is an asshole and also not a head coach.

Some guys are best in a supporting role. That is no dig on them.

Being a NFL Head Coach is very hard. The majority of guys with NFL HC experience have losing records.

Freddie did well as OC in 2018. He'll probably do well in that role elsewhere.

This year's success, and the difficulty of the position, only highlights how extra-special Stefanski is.
