Old enough to remember when a coach's playing career was used to measure their coaching abilities.

It seems that a generation of shitty former players becoming Hall of Fame coaches hasn't swayed the casual digs like that at the behest of other players not living up to their potential.

Here are some of his quotes:

It was, in fact, a casual dig/tangent that I wasn't really trying to relate to his coaching. Well aware that if anything, meager players seem to make better coaches.

I am, though, wondering if Lindley is going to have to be the first to fall on the sword here.

Monken hates Running Backs?

Like, on principle?

He's made some bad in game decisions that any 12 year old with a Madden addiction would have gotten right, and his clock management isn't very good, but he's a rookie head coach and I hope we at least give the guy a whole season to learn from his mistakes and do better. I think he will as he's an intelligent guy.

I think he's gonna learn the hard way that calling plays in his first ever head coaching experience is a lot more than he bargained for and he needs to delegate more. I wish he would have been able to see how badly that's gone for almost everyone ever and not tried it in the first place, but these guys don't get this far in this career without an ego.

I really hope this is just something a reporter made up for clicks. As bad as he's been at times, we can't be that organization. Hell I was ready to fire him right on the field if we went another goal line series and didn't give Chubb the ball, but he showed he learned from that mistake that probably cost us the Rams game and it paid off.

So the Browns need to go 7-2 in the last nine to have a shot at the playoffs. And maybe need 8-1. What a disaster by John and Freddie.

Actually I would assume this was leaked to Clayton on purpose to get it out there before he is axed.

That's a bush league move and any potential HC candidate would be dumb to come here if the leash is this short.

Meh. He was pretty much hired because of how well we did after Hue and how well he spoke (like a car salesman). I’d say every OC and DC and a ton of former HCs (McCarthy) would love to come here with the talent and QB we have. Hiring Kitchens was a big risk and head scratcher everywhere but our fan base.
Window is small, if you see something that may not work, you can’t wait around. If Jimmy and Dorsey have any doubt, cut bait ASAP.

Freddie was an excellent coordinator for that short time. It was a definitely a risk with his limited experience, but he ran a modern offense and helped Baker perform at a high level. Those are the type of coaches you keep in house and he carried himself well during interviews.

There's no reason to be reactionary. The window isn't small if Baker can be an above average or better QB. The window to load up on talent while Baker/Ward/Myles are on rookie contracts is limited, but it isn't impossible to field a superbowl team with them on big deals. It's just more difficult.

The roster really doesn't matter if you get 6 games or you're fired

If the team is starting to tune out Freddie, you can't count on games like the Cards, Steelers, or even Bungles, much less the home Ratbirds, Bills, Broncos, etc. games.

Yes, I am still excluding the Fins game from that list for now, but...

Good CEOs cut bait and don't worry about sunk costs when running world class organizations. If Dorsey feels like he made a mistake, he needs to drop the hammer, or pretty soon it will be his ass after a 5-11 season.
