Bring them to Cleveland. Two MLB teams sharing one retractable dome. Double the odds of ending the curse.

I'm guessing it's either LA or Like a Portland who wants an MLB team type of thing.

They could play every home game as part of a double header.

81 doubleheaders in one season.

Combined, the two teams drew about 1.8 mil. 81 doubleheaders would draw a lot more than that.

Good. I'm sick of seeing that gross venue on TV. Maybe change their team colors too. The least aesthetically pleasing pro sports product by far.

No way LA gets a 3rd team.

I imagine Portland has the inside track over Nashville just because it's west coast but it's got to be those two cities

Living here in Portland, despite it's size, growth, blah blah blah... There just doesn't seem to be that much heat in actually landing a MLB club. That may change if the prospect of getting a team gains some serious traction, but I would say Las Vegas is a good under the radar candidate.

They are trying to get a team in Portland... I am sure if Oakland says they are leaving, you will see the group try to get them there...

I am completely aware of this as I have lived here for 15 years. I am talking about the general population, and honestly no one seems to care that much.

This "project" is just that, something for people to do with their time, it is akin to this message board. The "They" are us, and "The Portland Diamond Project" is the RCF message board.

If re-location to Portland gains serious traction, then general interest should/will increase. Portland denizens in general are wary of developers and public funding in any fashion seems unlikely. In a vacuum the market is PERFECT, in reality Nashville/Vegas would probably be more lucrative markets.

EDIT. Our A ball team draws OK, (it was its first year as a full season team - and we also let Vancouver use the stadium as a home stadium) but when I would go to AAA games back in the day... I swear a couple of times there was maybe 1500 people (at most) and probably right around 1,000 folks in attendance. I remember one game where there was less than 10 of us in the box behind 3rd base. That was a weird feeling, almost like I was at a rec league game or something. Our old friend Josh Barfield smashed the longest homer I ever saw in that stadium that day.

Double edit. I know the Diamond project has some pretty serious backers behind it and if the fire ignites, they will go into full on blitz mode.

Though I am sure they'll keep the Athletics moniker, you could riff on the desert theme for days. I think the Gamblers and the Strip-ers are out though.

You might want to look up the Atlanta AAA club... Especially its nickname.
A number of former CLE players were on that roster this past season (including Mr. Kipnis)..
