I hear Redskins is now available

Not sure if most people will know who they are, but i mean you cannot get any badder than the non-Roman people who sacked Rome. Though maybe something similar that maybe has a connection to Cleveland hmm...

Vercingetorix can be our new Chief Wahoo

A guy from France (Gaul) who ran to a fortress, was surrounded, and then surrendered. Hard Pass.

Let's go for the guy who beat V-rix -- we can be the Cleveland Caesars. Our mascot could be a legionary. Or Cleopatra. That would give us an excuse every year to have a "Toga Day".

If I'm placing a bet, I'm betting on them keeping the current name.

If they do change, there's no reason for them to change to something so close to "Indians," like "Tribe."

I still like Guardians or Spiders, but these things tend to never be the choices people talk about beforehand.

Tribe should be discussed. That is not a racist term and applies to many different peoples
the term "Indians" is not racist, in any shape or form. In fact its just short for "native american Indian" which is one of the politically correct terms used to identify someone that is native to the americas. As such it would make very little sense to change it to "Tribe"

That said I agree with Q in that i dont think they change it. As I have mentioned in the politics thread I think they could very easily leave it "indians" while recognizing native Americans at the same time. Make donations to various tribes, have history plaques throughout the stadium, etc. It would not take a lot to turn it into a positive for the community (Especially native american community)

I think with the history of Chief Wahoo that 'Indians' is forever tainted. I mean, we still had protesters this year even though no one was attending the game.

Bright side: They weren't accosted by drunken morons who loudly voice their opposition to any sort of change, and verbally attack or demean the people who are peacefully protesting to stop denigrating their heritage.

This is no different from the "hardcore liberal woman" that just earned someone else a vacation. It's also the exact kind of comment I've said repeatedly -- in this very thread -- wouldn't float in discussing the Indians' name, etc.. Since you weren't here for that, you just get a warning. Knock it off.

Thread now locked. You want to discuss this while making snide remarks about people who disagree, here's the place:
