Cleveland Steelheads and have a bad ass fish logo.
If too close to steelers, then Cleveland Walleye

In the Volcano.

It would be awesome.

Everyone should visit Portland at least once.

It is like living in an alternate version of America.
Been there on business four or five times. Visit yes, scenery is beautiful. Live there, NFW.

Hoynes' column this morning lists a lot of the name suggestions and breaks them down into categories. Here's my short list, FWIW:

Tribe
Rocks
Guardians
Commodores
Steelheads (not crazy about fish but it sounds cool and we used to make a lot of steel here)
Cougars
Thunderbirds (I also like Thunderbolts but it wasn't suggested)
Redhawks (presuming we have them around here)
Bulldogs
Ironmen
Quasars
Cobras

Please, no Spiders or other insects, Buckeyes (OSU already has it), Blues (associated with depression), Naps or other names associated with a single person, any birds that eat road kill like condors and buzzards, or names referencing the river on fire.

But I'd really prefer to stick with Indians unless somebody can show some scientific evidence of damage to Native Americans. There are many Native American organizations that have the word "Indian" in their name, like the American Indian Policy Center.

Delete the bolded so this thread doesn't get closed again. If you want to discuss whether or not the name should be changed, there is a thread in the political subforum.

Especially with the Rockies already existing, it has roughly a 0% chance of happening.

I hope you're right. But between the Cleveland Rocks theme song and the city's insistence on letting the Rock n Roll be its one and only calling card, I would have to think it's one of the early front runners. We'll see though- good point on the Rockies.

If Cindy Crawford agrees to be the mascot, I am 100% behind the Cleveland Cougars.

What was the worst thing the state of washington ever did? Build a bridge to Oregon.

to me anyone that groups Portland and Seattle together signals that chances are they havent been to both places. Yes they are both NW major cities, and are kinda sorta close to each other, but they are drastically different and i dont have a good way to describe how.

Seattle is closer to New York, Boston, LA, Washington DC, etc. in terms of being a dense, major metropolitan area. Portland is closer to places like Cleveland, Columbus, Oklahoma City, San Antonio, etc--Sure they're major American cities, but they aren't as developed? I don't know the exact wording but it's just sort of a vibe of a place where you can actually commute to and from work in a reasonable amount of time.

Personally, I really like both Seattle and Portland.

The vibe in Portland is what I like best about it. :chuckle:

Given, I was just a tourist and I haven't really explored the entire area well enough to make an informed statement, but from where I did roam, that laid back, service-industry-focused vibe is great... even if they still have issues with grime and poverty.

I have lived in Portland for the last 11 years. Yes, they root for Seattle teams until there is a PDX team and then all bets are off. There is a rivalry between the two like a big brother little brother where one thinks they are better than the other. PDX has been looking for a location for a baseball stadium for a while and it sounds like they selected one. They are really trying hard and a lot of people have PDX/MLB stickers on their car waiting for it.
I hope they do and it ends up in the American League so my Tribe will come here once a year and I don’t have to drive to Seattle through the never ending construction that is the I5 in Tacoma!

If the Indians moved to Tacoma the name would be easy: The Tacoma Stench.

Seattle is a global business oriented city. Fast paced and white collar especially for the West Coast. Like a Boston or Chicago of the West.

Portland is like a college town that got too big. And filled up with 90s refugees.
