Name them the Eries.

I dont think theres a big movement to remove the name from the lake, so it would be difficult to argue with a name already attached to the word 'Great'.

The lake was named after a 16th century tribe that resided on the south side of the lake, what we now call the North Shore.

And I could still refer to the Tribe.

In their inaugural American League season they were nicknamed the Cleveland Blues.
I'm not saying it's their best choice, but it Is historically accurate.

(For the record, they played .397 ball as the Blues)

With the Rock HOF, and the blues being the precursor of Rock and Roll, I like the Cleveland Blues.

As for the topic of changing the name of the team: I don't give a shit. The only thing I care about is this organization is located in Cleveland, Ohio. They can call it whatever the hell they want.

Cleveland area originally i believe was an Iroquois area. Hence why i said that as a name. Erie is a tribe so hopefully no outside peeps have an issue with it if they do go that route.

I feel if they do a name change, it will have to be something like Commodores , Spiders, Forest City since they are European or non-political in name origins. Do anything else and it could be hard to get those outside forces off your back.

But the more I consider it, the more I like Rocks. It connotes what Cleveland is now probably associated with, the home of Rock and Roll.

There is already a regional theme song for that term.

And in another meaning, Rocks connotes to strength.

Nashville has the Sounds as a sports franchise. Why cant Cleveland have Rocks?

Plus, Cleveland Rocks might appeal to a younger demographic, which is something baseball needs.

Frankie Lindor, or the next incarnation, would be a Rock Star.

I'm liking it.

Going with the Cleveland Blues would give us two professional sports teams named after colors. Which isn't technically the case but that's how most people would see it. While I personally don't mind the name, I don't know if that's the best direction to go.

Made a thread in the Politics forum, as suggested, in case this thread is locked or anyone wants to discuss the issue of the name change itself.

Has to be the Steamers right as a tribute to the great steamboat era and the great lakes.

Cleveland Steamers just sounds right.
Too obvious, name should be Cleveland Seamers and logo is a block C with baseball stitches

Guardians, Commodores or Spiders are my top choices.

Though I did like that idea of going full soccer with the Cleveland Baseball Club.

There's an NHL team called the St. Louis Blues. If we change the name, do we need to choose a name that is not already in use by another major pro franchise?

I guess not since we have the San Francisco Giants and the New York Giants.

If they change the name, that's it for me.
Seriously, how many times does @The Human Q-Tip need to post that this thread is not meant to discuss the merits of changing the name but rather the possibilities should they decide to go that route?

On a serious note, I think doing something related to ships and nautical things would make a lot of sense with the Columbus Clippers and LC Captains already in the fold.

What if we got rid of team names all together?

Go the soccer route.

Cleveland BC

Actually speaking of soccer, maybe we can just take the name Crew from Columbus. I think they intended it as more union worker but Cleveland Crew wouldn't be terrible actually. Has the nautical vibe with Captains and Clippers.
