Actually speaking of soccer, maybe we can just take the name Crew from Columbus. I think they intended it as more union worker but Cleveland Crew wouldn't be terrible actually. Has the nautical vibe with Captains and Clippers.

I suggested earlier in the thread to throw it back to the early 1870s, when pro baseball first arrived in Cleveland, and name them the Forest City Baseball Club. That club was referred to in the media as the “Forest Citys.”

Arguably, our team mascot is the most permanent, popular, and omnipresent franchise property. Ergo: the Cleveland Sliders!

Going with the Cleveland Blues would give us two professional sports teams named after colors. Which isn't technically the case but that's how most people would see it. While I personally don't mind the name, I don't know if that's the best direction to go.

Even further, it would make an interesting dynamic with the Ohio NL club being the Reds and the Ohio AL club being the Blues.

I think that’s kind of cool although of course many would make associations to politics as well with those two names.

I honestly dont think discussing the team name is political. I know our mod suggested it is, but the current times as made the Indians themselves bring it up.....no one is discussing the need, just if its changed, what should we change it too.

I know i threw out some jokes, but honestly i am team Spider and my daughter (16) thinks it would be cool. I showed her some of the older graphics you can find online and she liked it allot. She isnt a baseball fan so she was a good neutral source of one to bounce the idea off of.

I hate the Buckeyes because of the team in Columbus. Erie might create a new problem that i dont think exists but others might. Steamers would make me way to happy for all the wrong reasons and Commodores i find very meh.

I’m all in on the Guardians.
1. The brdge is right outside the ballpark, while the Spiders and Blues carry no civic significance.
2. Guardians project strength while spiders are associated with words like “kill” and “creepy.”
3. If done right, a Guardians logo could be truly bad ass.
4. OSU would do everything possible to quash any attempt to rename the team the Buckeyes.
5. Not that it’s a crucial factor, but Indians and Guardians end with the same two syllables making for a more natural transition than the other potential names.

From what I've heard, I'd prefer the Guardians. Tied with that would've been the Commodores, but then I'd imagine a very easy nickname that no one would want could be the Commies.

I'd go with Spiders to round out my top 2.

Downside to the Guardians? It's an XFL team, too.
Downside to the Spiders? Although I appreciate the throwback to the earlier Cleveland team, I can see how it feels a little generic or unimpressive.

If you would have actually read my posts in here, and in the thread that was closed, I have no issue with discussing new names.

My issue was solely with those who went beyond that, and tried to turn it into a racial/social justice/political discussion about whether the name should be changed at all. The only reason you do not see those posts in here is because I've had to spend much of my 4th of July monitoring this thread, and editing/deleting those posts. For which I have all of you to thank.

I missed all of that, and i get confused what thread i am in sometimes because they bounce around.. Sorry you wasted time on a debate if it should be changed, at this point its not worth debating because it looks like its going to happen and its out of our control one way or the other.

Sorry i misunderstood, have fun today although i have nothing to do as there are very few fireworks here and we cant go to them anyways.
