The Game (2018) | #10 Ohio State vs. #4 TTUN | November 24th, 2018 @ High Noon

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This has been my rule with this.

If you cannot win your own conference? You should not be playing for the national championship.

Alabama should not have been playing in 2011. That game was a disgrace.
Alabama should not have been playing last year.

Notre Dame, and the service academies are the exception to this. Because well...they obviously cannot -win- a conference title.

ESPN can shove it up their ass. i blame them and Gary Danielson oogling over the SEC like Musburger does over college girls over this shit.

Ohio State lost by 30 to Purdue. Not sure how you square that when push comes to shove.

Don’t think a conference championship means as much when everyone on the other side shit themselves. That is why Iowa flaming out was going to hurt Michigan or OSU in a situation where they needed an additional resume boost.

I just don’t see how Alabama is out if it’s a close loss. It’s just going to come down to OSU soiling themselves against a bad team.

The point of the playoff is to have the best 4 teams play. Alabama is one of the best 4 teams, with one game to play. When the dust settled on the big ten, it’s pretty ugly looking.

To me, conference championships matter for teams with similar resumes. OSU doesn’t have a similar resume to Alabama, unless they get their hole kicked in by Georgia.

Why are we comparing Ohio State to Alabama again?

I honestly think it’s a mistake to not go for another score there

People can say they don’t all they want, but style points clearly matter.

Other than trying to rub it in, it didn’t do anything else for them. They kicked their ass.

It was actually incredibly stupid in hindsight. They lost a starter on the OL trying to be cute.

Michigan is better than any team Alabama has played or will play this season (they're better than Georgia). Penn State is a high ranked team we beat at their place. Michigan State was ranked 16th or 17th when we beat them in their house, and then the rankings committee dropped them off the face of the earth like they were nothing.

If Bama goes down for some reason to Georgia again, we deserve to be in over them. Should have been in over them last year, but ESPN wanted to suck off Finebaum.

Compelling argument, but all this talk is worthless. Alabama will skullfuck Georgia into oblivion and coast to the national title, once more.

I hope they skullfuck them, because that gives us a better chance to get in the playoff :chuckle:

You seriously think PSU or MSU wouldn’t get rolled by any of the top 6 teams in the SEC? They have proven they are dog shit teams.

I think Michigan is better than they showed today but Bama has wins over 3 top 25 teams (2 shutouts) and has killed everyone.

Let’s assume they have a close loss to Georgia.....you are arguing a confernce championship and a win over a slightly better team at home (Michigan) gets them in? With the same record? OSU got killed by a terrible team.

I just don’t see it. OSU needs to cheer for Bama, they’re not getting in over them.

Like...I get it..
But not who uear.

Alabama is beating everyone they play by 30+ points. No exceptions.

If Georgia beats them by a Hail Mary, I'm ok with them still getting in.

Most years no. But this honestly looks like one of the 3 or 4 best teams ever. Right there with 94 Penn State and 01 Miami.

I really value it an insane degree in the Bowl Coalition/Bowl Alliance/Bowl Championship Series/College Football Playoff system. I think it goes against the nature of a playoff to not reward a conference championship under this scenario.

This is not even a "BAMA" convo as we've seen this system deliver some "WTF" sort of matchups rather than something that feels like we truly got to see the 2 best teams in the country play each other. (2000 Miami, 2001 Nebraska getting in over Colorado, Oregon, 2003 Oklahoma over USC, come to mind)

If this was under the old system? It wouldn't matter because we're discussing scenarios for Ohio State if they have a shot at claiming a piece of the national championship against Washington in Pasadena.

If Bama loses in that scenario? So what? They're probably just getting bounced out of the Sugar Bowl and playing (Big 8/12) Champion Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl or something.

If this was under a 8 team playoff where say the conference champions of the Big Ten, ACC, SEC, Big XII, Pac 12, etc are all "in" with a win? Again. This is not a conversation.

If Bama loses in that scenario? Again, so what? They're probably nab a wildcard spot and stuck with a worse seed.

We're probably discussing what "seed" OSU is going to get in that scenario. Whether we're in as the 3rd, 4th or 5th seed.

It's the worst compromise I've ever seen.

I don't think that a team that doesn't win their conference championship (outside of a team like ND obviously) should be considered for selection. If Bama goes down to Georgia, I don't think they should get in. Don't care how good they apparently are - if they were good, they'd win their conference.

And I think Penn State could easily hang against anybody from the SEC not named Bama or Georgia. Michigan State, no.

lol at the Michigan fan trying to come in here and talk shit about the playoff. No one cares dude. Your team got waxed again. Byeeeeeee.

The playoff system as it is...is trash.

Wouldn't matter if a Michigan fan is saying this or me, a person who pulls for OSU in the rivalry game.

It was a weak sauce compromise to shut people up. People wanted an 8 team playoff and they couldn't even go all the way there.

This argument operates in a perfect world where all conferences are created equal. Big Ten west is awful. Getting to the SEC champiship is harder than winning the big ten, this year.

I hate the SEC but look at how the top 5 teams in the BIG finished the year. It’s just a bunch of meh. All the teams are just so average and the other good one (Michigan) slep walked against a terrible IU team and got smoked by Ohio State.

The conference championship opponent is an 8-4 team that lost to Akron. Not even sure why some of you guys are wasting time making this argument.

Wasn’t referring to you, btw. You know I’m cool with you.

Eh, the whole thing is why I'm down for a 6-team playoff. Five conference champs and one at large (ND, Georgia, UCF, whoever). Bama and Clemson would get byes. I feel like with this kind of a system that we have, all five power-5 conferences should be represented each year kind of like a division in any other sport.
