The Golf Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Played 18 at the Quarry down in Canton this morning.Beautiful course, first time I have played there. Would recommend. Could have done without the frost delay lol. Have never hit so many 6 irons off a tee.

Also got the privilege to play the West course at Firestone Country Club a month ago. Most difficult greens I've ever played and it was 95 degrees...meh. I like the north course better. Never played south.

Oh and played Eagles Nest a few weeks ago out in BFE towards Wooster. Nice course as well.

Hate how the weather went right from 90 to 50...this is my favorite time to golf, pants and a sweater.. .this morning was basically what I wear when I go snowboarding...

The Quarry is a fine public course. I've played it maybe 6-7 times but haven't got down there this year. Takes me about 1-1/4 hrs to drive there so don't get there as often as I'd like. That course designer Brian Huntly is an Ohio guy and has done several nice courses around here and tweaked a few others. Another good one of his is Deer Creek near Bellville, Ohio right off Rt 71. It's a haul but I've played it twice. Also Shale Creek in Medina is a fun course, easy to score on, but has too many houses on it. I also like Elsworth Meadows in Hudson and he updated that course some time back. Sanctuary in Canton is decent. Raintree in Uniontown an early one of his has gotten beat up but was nice at one time.
Lots of nice courses, just wish we'd get over the golf craziness from the past few years where often getting a tee time is a chore. Too many hacks out there clogging up the courses.

If weather allows I definitely want to try out Deer Creek and Shale Creek this year. I tend to stay around the Akron/Canton area just because that's where I live and there's like a dozen courses within 20 minutes.

Actually playing Sanctuary tomorrow. We enjoyed missing the Browns game so much last week, I booked a 12:44 tee time. I actually grew up in the neighborhood adjacent to Sanctuary and might have snuck on the course a few times in my youth :chuckle:

F'in three putts

I did hit my best drive ever today though. 325 yard par four, left it ten feet behind the hole. Was downhill and downwind. Ball must have passed a foot by the hole. Of course I missed the putt because I was scared.

LIV and PGA agree to a merger.

It is shocking news and it will be interesting to see how those loyal to the tour will react

Details aren't all clear yet, but this is disturbing news. Not surprising, another business submitting to huge money. My PGA fandom wasn't enormous, but it could be dwindling. They seem to have hung their most loyal stars out to dry.

This is not a merger.

No matter how the parties involved choose to dress it up, the Saudi Public Investment Fund has - for all intents and purposes - purchased the PGA TOUR and DP World Tour.

LIV Golf will almost assuredly not exist by 2024 because the Saudi's simply don't need it as an entity anymore.

They now have what they wanted all along - full control over an entire sport.

Here's what the future of golf looks like...

The top players - TBD on the exact number, but something like 75 guys - will play approximately 16 super events per year. These events will have no cut and will have MASSIVE purses. Bigger purses than golf has ever seen. These super events will be played across the globe with probably 60% happening in the United States and 40% happening international. One of these super events will 100% take place in Saudi Arabia.

Throw in the 4 major championships and you'll have the best players in the world will be playing basically 20 events per year.

In addition to this this "super tour" there will be an increase in appearance fees, bonuses, basically all sorts of new ways to get guys to lock in guaranteed money.

For the players who aren't in the top 75 - the standard PGA TOUR and DP World Tour's will continue to exist in some capacity. These events will also likely see an uptick in purses as well and there will be ways for players on those tours to play their way onto the "super" tour.

Once the sour feelings of the PGA TOUR guys getting lied to wears off, everyone's gonna be happy in the end because it's gonna be a lot more money for everyone. And ultimately the fans are gonna win out too because the best players will be playing against each other more often.

And yeah the money is coming from a gross place, but unfortunately the reality is that most money is from gross places.

Rory catching strays. Link

As things currently stand, it appears LIV Golf will continue to exist as its own entity and players will be given the chance to participate in events outside of the official PGA Tour schedule.

However, based on what one insider had to say, it doesn’t seem like McIlroy will receive an invitation, as the unnamed executive threw some major shade at the Northern Irishman, saying:

“Now we can finally get Hideki [Matsuyama] and Jon Rahm. I would say every big name on the PGA Tour will get an offer.

Except Rory. Nobody wants that little b**** on their team.”

62 for Fowler! Love seeing him back in form this year. Rooting for him this week.

Los Angeles is still on COVID limits it looks like

First one to 30 under wins the US Open

Kind of.

The course is very small and compact, so the USGA only sold 22K tickets per day. They usually sell 40K to 45K per day at bigger venues.

Of those 22K, 14K were pure hospitality/luxury boxes, which only left about 9K general admission per day.

Allegedly (this is unconfirmed, but rumored) Los Angeles Country Club then purchased like 4000 of the 9000 available GA tickets and basically sat on them to intentionally keep the crowds as small as possible.

Final round of BMW today. Ryder Cup standings will be resolved. Curious to see if Koepka qualifies or will potentially be a captain’s pick
