The Golf Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Played two years of HS golf using nothing more than a 5, 7, 9 pitching, sand and putter. It's "pussy golf" but it's really, really smart for amateurs like any of us.

Almost every course in NE Ohio is two five irons and a very, very short wedge.

Exactly. The longest par 4 I've seen this year was probably around the 430 or 440 range honestly.

There's a lot of long ass par fours that are dog leg left, because most people playing them slice and it makes the hole harder. Played the other day, hole is probably 480 yards with the dramatic dog leg, but not a 90, which is an iron to an opening... trees line the left, but they're thin, and probably like twenty feet? Pulled out my five wood, hit a gnarly hook around the bend to 130ish. That's a five wood heavy p wedge when almost everyone else is hitting driver 3/4hybrid-6 because they cant control a drive.

Know what you mean. I feel like it's my birthday whenever I see a dogleg that plays to my slice perfectly ha

I just really, really need a long ball. In HS, I could easily pull a 270 yard drive, but it wasn't very consistent in where it went and I wasn't nearly as good with irons as I am now.

And a putter. If anyone has a line at a nicer putter, yeah, I'm looking.

I'm the opposite of most golfers. I hit my driver straight and 250 or more consistently. Then proceed to get wrecked by my iron game, my irons lack height, distance (due to the height), and spin.

I did too. Hand position was big. I got down, dropped my hands at approach, and was getting height. Leaning forward gets you spin if you aren't lagging and dropping down on te ball. I get more "pro divots" that way.

Changing grips has helped me a ton too.

I get clean divots like the pros but rarely any spin. So tough to do

Not even kidding. Talked to a pro for ten minutes, have me that front foot weight trick, and I can stop balls within a few feet from the divot. It's not crazy, but it's better than nothing.

Sweet, a golf thread. This forum just gets better and better. I played a lot in high school, but only have time to play on weekends now...less consistent than I used to be, but it's still a lot of fun.

Also, go Tiger :spin:

Woah woah woah. I thought I was the only golfer around here. Been rocking the Titleist avi for at least two years now. :chuckles:

I am a lefty as well. You'd think I'd like Mickleson a lot more, but I'm still a Tiger guy. I want to look back when I get old and say I watched the best ever in his prime. Unfortunately, I've been too broke to golf as much as I'd like, but I love golfing in Cleveland. Lots of nice courses that are cultivated in real nice terrain (unlike the desert).

I'll be watching the marquee group this morning. If Tiger doesn't win, I still go American, but to narrow it down some more, I like Dustin Johnson and Sneds.

Played golf my whole life. My parents bought a 9 hole course back in 1978 (Elk Valley near rt90 in Erie). We put in another 9, I designed it. Sadly we sold it in 1995, so my free golf ended. :-(

Lucky if I play twice a week now. Still in a Friday night skins league and get out about every other weekend. This getting old shit sucks though. It use to be about hitting it long, now it's all about keeping it in play. Can't come close to playing the way I use to be able to.

I've run several golf leagues through the years and written several programs for doing handicaps and matches. Started doing one for the web (www.golf-league-manager.com) but never never finished it.

Oh yea... Hate Tiger. Always did, even before he became a whore. Loved Arnie (my dad looked just like him too). But, Freddy Couples has to be my all time fav...

No one can hate Freddy. It's impossible.

6 handicap here. Could have played for multiple schools in college, decided not to and focus on just studying (plus i wasn't getting full scholarships for golf like i was for school).

I kind of wish i had though, i have the competitive itch, but i'll just stick to local tournaments.

Played only 9 at Fowlers Mill the other day. The Lake course is very beautiful, but tough.

Pissed they had all the interesting groups early in the morning.

33 players already are E or better, and nobody's even finished yet. I heard that the course was tough enough that the winner may not break par? lol

Playing Hickory Nut in Columbia Station today. Haven't played there since getting bitched at by some old lady at 18 for playing into her after having to wait 25 minutes on every hole ha.
