The Jarvis Landry Thread: Bless 'Em

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think it’s been mostly dropped by the anti Jarvis side and the Jarvis truthers wait for his first good game of the season to scream from the mountaintops at just how wrong everyone else was and always has been

I hated the trade, thought he was overrated fantasy footballer, saw that I thought too lowly of him when he played last year, changed my stance on the trade and settled around he’s a decent #2, elite slot, and should never ever be a 1. I’m just tired of the dick swinging for a guy who has averaged 65 yards a game for us and people claiming he’s this absurd deep threat any time he catches one pass over 20 yards.

This has NEVER been about whether or not Jarvis was a deep threat. The assertion was that Jarvis isn't a very good option for an offense because he's not a deep threat. YAC was something folks held against him, as well.

It still just doesn't make any sense to me how this trait, or his game, translates to not very good because of this trait. That's been one of the arguments against him on this board; his shorter routes being deemed not good enough. I'm happy to ridicule people with that opinion.

Well, in fairness, it still doesn't make any sense to me why you think anyone is saying he's not very good.

So I guess we're at quite the impasse.

I don't think he's a complete receiver, and is utilization dependent. But he's very good at that when he's utilized correctly.

Now that you have folks who can do the deep stuff, you can let Jarvis do his thing with the short aDOT.

Let's just not make him out to be something he's not. Sort of like a great utility player in baseball.

I just read all the back and forth, crazy.

Look, Landry is a very good slot receiver, by nature he is targeted underneath and he is a pro getting open in zones. We saw what happens when they play a zone against us on Sunday with safety help over the top looking at OBJ.

I don't agree with AZ Higgins is better, that is his opinion, he is entitled to it, but do yourself a favor AZ and keep your tone a bit more in check, some take it the wrong way.

I do agree he will regress some, I mean 20 yards isn't sustainable on the routes Jarvis runs.

But like in college Jarvis and OBJ are perfect compliments to eachother, one is a zone buster, other is a man on man buster, throw in Higgins and Calloway from here on out hopefully and good luck defending.

I sure handed underneath receiver who is highly skilled at getting open underneath against zones...basically a guy who keeps the chains moving?

Yeah sign me up for that too. I hated the YPC argument against him, its what he was asked to do and he has done it at a very high clip.

If you count game threads as evidence and not just emotional outbursts I can go find you posts stating how people were wrong to say Jarvis is not a deep threat.

I don't want to cite posters specifically & can't get into a deep dive to site them, but I'll play for a minute.

The guy just simply isnt all that good. Hes a limited physically WR with good hands. He has a place in the league but he definitely isnt a guy who is being schemed around.

Thank you Sashi for helping us make this addition. Even if Duke Johnson is a better WR and would cost half as much as Landry!

The second one is an objectively bad take.

But the first is pretty well correct, comparatively to his contract, that's quite a bit to pay for a utility WR who is utilization dependent to be effective.

Fair criticism, IMO

All I’ve read is this thread. You don’t find me in game threads; I’ve got enough emotion on my own. I quickly scanned a few pages as I’m sitting in traffic.

Ever hear of ROT? When you single out one result instead of looking at 5+ seasons of data.

Enjoy your week 4 victory lap, I know I enjoyed his big game.

Those of us who are “Jarvis haters” have never said he’s bad. Just that he isn’t as good as his cap hit or target share.

He was undeniably great Sunday. If he keeps anywhere near that level, then that’s great. It’s just counter to what he’s been his entire career.

I mean, he is physically limited. His combine proved that without a shadow of a doubt. For an NFL WR, he is absolutely a bottom tier WR physically.

The funniest part of the Jarvis thing is people quote me fairly often and I imagine them thinking "Gotcha".

I could care less. I hope to be wrong when it comes to Jarvis, lol.

I don't suffer from take lock.

Can't we all just agree he had a great game on Sunday, hope he is back for Monday and keeps that shit up?

I think he is a pro bowl slot receiver but at the end of the day it doesn't matter what he is as long as he is helping this team win. Because he is ultimately a cog that will make this team very good

Disagree. He's got elite short-area quickness. A very valuable trait for a WR. He also isn't too physically limited to be one of the most attentive blocking WRs in the game.
