The Jimmy Haslam Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
For those of you hoping he goes down, time is ticking. This is from The Athletic.

https://theathletic.com/192458/2017...j-employees-impact-browns-owner-jimmy-haslam/

The 63-year-old Haslam, who serves as Pilot’s CEO, has not been charged and has denied any wrongdoing in a case in which 14 other company executives and employees have pleaded guilty.

It doesn’t mean Haslam is completely in the clear just yet — either under federal law or the long arm of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The findings of the jury trial, set to resume Jan. 10 and likely to stretch into late February, could potentially impact his status as Browns owner.

But nothing that’s transpired to this point in the trial would appear to place him in serious jeopardy in terms of the law or with the league. Obviously, that can change with a bombshell development. It’s important to note, however, the government has had nearly five years to bring charges against Haslam. And barring extraordinary circumstances, the statute of limitations is set to expire April 15, sources have indicated to The Athletic.

In other words, the government is running out of time to make a case against Haslam.

"Jimmy Haslam, Please Sell The Browns - Petition

Dear Mr. Haslam,

Your ownership of the Cleveland Browns has been an unrelenting, historic disaster. We, the loyal fans of the Cleveland Browns, ask that you sell the team to an individual or group with more competence and integrity.

Thank you."

After some time for reflection, the biggest problem with the Browns is clearly the owner. These forced marriages between head coach and GM where both report directly to the owner is a disaster waiting to happen.

I don’t know how he expects such a fucked up organizational structure to have consistent success. With this “independent branches” setup, they’re going to have a hell of a time making sure everyone’s on the same page.

Umm............

There's a really disturbing story that just came out about the Pilot Flying J Investigation. It does not reflect well on the owners of The Cleveland Browns. I'd post the link but it's racist af. Like super racist.

Mods, take it down if you think this shouldn't be up here. @MoFlo

Was there a recording on the link? I just have a screen that says "This just in"

Thats what Im looking for. If Jimmy wasn't in the conversation, great...if he was...that could lead to a sale ala Sterling.

I didn't post the article with the partial transcript, figured people could find that on their own.

Essentially, it's just a transcript of some exec's asking for David Allen Coe songs and using racial epithets therein.

It does not involve Haslam directly.

Recording wasn't release, but transcripts were released.

4 witnesses present, one was a flipped FBI informant wearing a wire (Vincent Greco).

I hope people don't mind, but a quick summary.

The President of Flying J was holding a sales meeting at lakehouse home in Tennessee. While there he/they went on a political rant about Cuyahoga County and Oakland, in which both cities had terrible football teams. The collective group can be heard mocking"The Dawg Pound".

The president (Hazelwood) broke out into a mocking tone, and sang: "Where's my greasy n_____s? Where's our greasy n_____s?"

It's time for Haslam to sell.

Good riddance.

I'm not sure your conclusion fits what happened, or why this info moves the "Haslam should sell" needle... You think Hazelwood would mock his boss's other business venture in his presence?

If he's comfortable enough to do it around other colleagues who he knows could tell Haslam at any moment than yes.

Yea, I am not so sure the conclusion is he should sell. Did he choose a scum bag to be the top exec at Pilot Flying J? Yup.

I agree with you that he should sell based on how he runs the team. This news doesn't make any difference to me. It just adds to the narrative that he doesn't have good judgement, especially when choosing leaders for his organization.

Haslam wasn't in attendance, but Haslam has vouched for Hazelwood's character and is paying his legal expenses.

Whether you believe Haslam is guilty or not in the "Trucker Fraud" scheme (multiple employees say he was aware), between Flying J having to pay the government $90M in penalty fees, and settling with trucking companies for $85M, now combined with Haslam's chosen President of his company saying these things.....cumulatively, its an awful look. I absolutely think there will be pressure from New York on Haslam to get out.
